SPIDERBAIT ANNOUNCE ‘SPIDERBAIT – THE SINGLES’ SHOW ‘

ANNOUNCE EXCLUSIVE SHOW
SPIDERBAIT THE SINGLES
AT FORUM MELBOURNE ON NOVEMBER 9
PLUS SPIDERBAIT – SINGLES VINYL BOX SET

To celebrate their hit-laden career, legendary Aussie rockers Spiderbait have today announced a one-off show at Forum Melbourne on November 9, with tickets going on sale at 9am Thursday July 11.  And another exciting announcement for long-time fans – the show will be paired with a brand new, limited edition 7” vinyl box set of singles, SPIDERBAIT – SINGLES and will be available exclusively at the show.

The story of Spiderbait is an unlikely but heartwarming one – three friends from a small Australian country town taking on the music scene, and emerging triumphantly 25 years later, friendship intact, and now one of the biggest and best rock bands on the national landscape. Taking inspiration from far-reaching influences from all sides of the musical spectrum (everything from Slayer to The Bangles), Spiderbait took their fervent thrash-pop from their tiny hometown of Finley in NSW down to Melbourne and immersed themselves in the rich, fertile creative scene.  From there they quickly consolidated their status as national treasures, with their popularity spanning three decades with no signs of abating.  Spiderbait have released seven acclaimed albums, which have all racked up gold, platinum or double platinum status and have combined Australian sales of over one million units.  As if that wasn’t enough, they have also racked up pretty much every accolade there is to achieve on the Australian scene, having taken home numerous ARIA Awards, chalked up a number one single (their 2004 cover of Leadbelly’s Black Betty) and even topped the prestigious triple j Hottest 100 (for Buy Me A Pony, 1996).

The upcoming show at Forum Melbourne is sure to please old and new fans alike, as drummer and vocalist Kram enthuses, For the first time we’ll be performing every one of singles in order of release, from Circle K way back in 1990 to now. It’s been great to look back at all these singles, from number 1s like Black Betty and Buy Me a Pony, to my personal faves like CalypsoStevie and It’s Beautiful….
They are like a diary of our lives bringing back memories from the whole time we’ve been playing together.  The same three country kids who formed a band for fun and ended up having this fucked up, brilliant, unexpected adventure! So to all our fans, come celebrate with us at the Forum in November, it will be a special night.”

Thrilled to be dropping the SPIDERBAIT – SINGLES 7” vinyl box set in conjunction with the show, complete with original mixes & artwork, Kram explains why they chose to add an unexpected song into the mix, saying,“We included Old Man Sam from 1991 – which wasn’t actually a single back then but might as well have been, as weirdly and wonderfully it became our first big hit song!  I’ll never forget the first time we played the song at Big Day Out in Sydney.  This was a big moment for us as we went on stage a bit nervous, it was a massive crowd of thousands at the Sydney Show Grounds and when we did Old Man Sam, the whole crowd sang it and went nuts.  That day we came off stage a very different band than the one that went on 45 minutes before.  It’s amazing and dare I say fucking awesome how one song can do that.”

Spiderbait are a very special Australian band with an abundance of fans across multiple generations and this exclusive show at the Forum Melbourne will be a victory lap for the group, and they’re excited to be taking all their fans along for the ride.

Tickets to Forum Melbourne will go on sale at 9am on Thursday July 11 from https://www.ticketmaster.com.au/event/130056D9ABB97BB0

SPIDERBAIT – SINGLES vinyl box set will be available to preorder as a ticket & vinyl bundle, and will be available for purchase at the show.

Spiderbait is Janet English on bass, Kram on drums and lead vocals, and Damian Whitty on guitar.

THE SUPERJESUS ANNOUNCE DOUBLE LIVE ALBUM ‘SUMO 20 LIVE’

THE SUPERJESUS ANNOUNCE DOUBLE LIVE ALBUM ‘SUMO 20 LIVE’

THE SUPERJESUS
ANNOUNCE DOUBLE LIVE ALBUM SUMO 20 LIVE
+ NATIONAL TOUR

Australian rock legends The Superjesus have today announced a new recording, The Superjesus SUMO 20 LIVE – a double live album recorded during their massive 20thanniversary tour of their celebrated debut album SUMO, set for release on September 6 and available to preorder from July 4. And not only will fans be able to re-live the hits, b-sides and rareties through this killer live album, but The Superjesus have also announced a run of shows in September to celebrate the release, with support from Violetine.  The group will be hitting up Badlands in Perth on September 6, then moving through Adelaide, Melbourne, and wrapping up in Sydney at Crowbar on September 21, with tickets onsale Thursday July 4. Lastly, as if all of this wasn’t enough, The Superjesus have also announced that they have recorded a brand new, never-before-heard song, entitled The Impossible, which will be available as an exclusive free download to those purchasing a ticket to the tour, or buying the SUMO 20 LIVE on vinyl, or a ticket and vinyl bundle.

Initially known as Hell’s KitchenThe Superjesus received national radio play with their debut 1996 EP Eight Step Rail and became a festival favourite at Big Day Out throughout the ‘90s. Their iconic album SUMO reached number two on the ARIA charts, and with a few ARIA awards in the trophy cabinet and their well-deserved induction into the South Australian Music Hall of Fame in 2017, The Superjesus are seriously beloved Australian rockers.  Their epic 2018 tour celebrating 20 years of SUMO was a true testament to this, with fans flocking from far and wide to party with The Superjesus once more.

The SUMO 20 LIVE album captures this energy, as frontwoman Sarah McLeod explains, “2018 was the year that marked the 20 year anniversary of our debut album SUMO.  To celebrate, we put together a show that encompassed a jurassic back catalogue of material that rolled out a two and a half hour show.  After smashing this set out night after night, it became obvious to us that we had become a pretty good band!  Three quarters of the way through the tour we decided that we should document where we were at, because it was surprising even us!  Also, and more importantly, the crowds were singing along with us with enthusiasm like we’d never heard before.  This shit needed to be recorded, so we set it up to film and record two shows.  We were playing two sets per night, set one was Sumo, set two was hits and rarities. We recorded set one at the Manning Bar in Sydney and set two at The Zoo in Brisbane and were stoked with how it came up.”

The experienced rockers are more than ready to hit the road again to launch this dynamic live album.  Thrilled to be back in touring mode, McLeod says,Luckily our idea to create a killer live album worked, and the results were better than we had hoped.  It’s more a ‘best of’ than a Sumo live record and we are very proud of it – and now we get to go on tour to coincide with its release and we’ve dragged our old touring mates Violetine out of retirement for the occasion!  We’ve been big fans of this band since they released Small Speaker Joyland in the 90’s. We are very happy that they’ve agreed to reform to tour with us!”

Fans of The Superjesus had best be quick to secure tickets to these shows – they won’t stick around for long.

Tickets to the SUMO 20 DOUBLE LIVE national tour will be available at 10am on Thursday July 4 from www.thesuperjesus.com

FIDLAR Release Video For ‘Flake’ | Touring In July

Ahead of their Australian tour this July, FIDLAR return today with a video for new single ‘Flake’ – a highlight of the band’s acclaimed new album, Almost Free, out now. The video sees the song’s lyrics translated by sign language interpreters.

Speaking of the concept for the clip, the band say, “‘Flake’ is a song about having friends in Los Angeles. The video idea came from a conversation I had with my girlfriend about sign language interpreters at music festivals and how it can be funny when they have to sign songs with explicit language. That brought me to the idea of piecing together a music video with clips of sign language interpreters signing every lyric of the song, mixed in with some clips of our favourite bad acting reels.  We spent an afternoon getting all the clips together and our bass player, Brandon Schwartzel, edited them together.”

First an indie sensation, then a stadium-slaying juggernaut, now experts in the subtle art of pop seduction, Irish heroes Two Door Cinema Club are celebrating the fevered reception to their just-dropped fourth record False Alarm with a string of unmissable appointments across Australia in November.

Described by Clash as “a game-changing record for the future of indie-rock”, False Alarm was released on June 21 and signals another chapter in the impressive re-birth of a band adored for their kinetic post-punk energy, world-weary lyricisms and recent forays into Kraftwerk-esque stylized synth-pop.

Led by the unmistakably sonorous vocals of Alex Trimble and backed with vigorous ease by Sam Halliday (bass) and Kevin Baird (drums), Two Door Cinema Club have been much-loved since they burst onto the landscape in 2009 with the release of their debut Tourist History.

Tracks from that record such as ‘Undercover Martyn’ and ‘What You Know’ were adopted as anthems of a nascent movement of UK based guitar acts catapulting themselves onto the worlds stage.

Bands like The Wombats and The Maccabees also lived inside this orbit and in the late-naughties, early-aughts it became impossible to escape the kind of razor-sharp songcraft that Trimble and his cohorts were unleashing.

From these wild origins, Two Door Cinema Club have built a steady catalogue of playlistable treasures. Their second record Beacon (2011), picked up where Tourist History left off, riding huge first single ‘Sleep Alone’ all the way to Number 4 on the ARIA charts here in Australia, where the band have always enjoyed a strong following.

Next up was Gameshow, an album released on the back of a self-enforced hiatus and period of soul searching for the band.

This third release signified a sonic shift, as the band worked with long-time producer (and fellow Irishman) Jacknife Lee (U2, REM, Weezer) on a more synth dominated universe; modifications that have continued into the release of False Alarm and its sci-fi spanning singles ‘Talk’ and ‘Dirty Air’.

A perpetual radio and festival favourite in Australia, Two Door Cinema Club are garnering some of the best reviews of their career for their latest outing, with Dork raving False Alarm is ‘an album packed with more ideas than many bands manage in an entire career’.

Decapitators release debut single “Crystal Math”

Decapitators release debut single “Crystal Math”

DECAPITATORS have spent the last year since their formation forging a cult-like following in the dingier parts of Sydney’s inner west for their dark and harmonically intense brand of rock. With a sound reminiscent of UK garage rock bands of the 80s and 90s, DECAPITATORS’ first official track sees them bursting onto Sydney’s rock scene with a fervour.

Upon progressing from duo to band, Decapitators have spent the last year forging a cult like following in the dingier parts of Sydney’s inner west for their dark and harmonically intense brand of rock. Dynamic, eerie, playfully dissonant and shrouded in breathy mystery, The now Sydney four-piece Decapitators are also set to release a music video later this month, alongside a few select tour dates, to celebrate the release of their debut single.

Decapitators is the eventual product of a year long trip to Mexico by two South Coast NSW friends. With no intentions for the music beyond writing songs on cheap guitars to pass the time, the jams quickly became anthems of the trip, and subsequently sentimental souvenirs. After some years of reprising these tunes every weekend upon reunion, Ivan (Rhythm guitar and lead vocals) and Thorne (Bass and backup vocals) began to dream of audiences beyond their immediate drunken social circles, and recruited two friends, one old (Matt – Lead guitar and backing vocals) and one new (Tom – Drums) to bolster the ranks.

Rudimental ‘ Toast to Our Differences’ Tour – Live Review

Rudimental ‘ Toast to Our Differences’ Tour – Live Review

London’s genre crossing quartet Rudimental brought their energetic electronic drum ‘n bass party to Margaret Court Arena,  Melbourne on Sunday 9th June.

Sneaky Sound System got the party off to a fine start with an exhilarating set, playing a great array of tracks from their catalogue and ending their hi energy set with their popular track ‘UFO’.

Rudimental stormed on stage just after 9pm blasting off with a shorter version of ‘New Day’ from ‘We The Generation’ kick starting the reggae party in fine style, followed by ‘Right Here’ and  ‘Not Giving In’ a standout track from 2013’s superb debut ‘Home’.

With tour vocalist, Afronaught Zu taking centre stage, as he does for the majority of the set, bumping up the energy levels a notch with his non-stop dance moves complementing the fun mood of the night. It was so impressive how his outrageous dance moves never affected his vocals and he didn’t miss a beat while jumping around!! The entire crowd dancing along with him throughout the entire show!

There was such a happy fun party atmosphere as the entire band, including the four touring members, bringing the amount of artists on stage to a total of eight, all looking like they were having the time of their lives and wanting everyone in the audience to feel the same. They were not disappointed as the crowd danced the night away arms waving in the air, losing themselves in the moment, smiles etched on every face!

Up next was ‘I Will For Love,’ taken from ‘We Are The Generation’ which was so powerful and really reached into your heart and soul, ‘Toast To Our Differences’ was a funky rendition by the hugely talented backing vocalist, Bridgette Amofah, and the trumpet drum pumping ‘Let Me Live’ raised the concert to another level.

The lighting show was also impressive, especially with the Ed Sheeran cover ‘Bloodstream’. The flashing lights were a mix of red and white, creating a bloody, insane atmosphere! There were many highlights –  the cover of Rag’n’Bone ‘Human’ a standout, a great slowed down version before turning into a dirty masterpiece. Anofah’s heartbreaking version of Emeli Sande’s ‘Free’ was another highlight. Beautiful!

Melbourne being the last gig on the Australian leg of their hugely successful worldwide tour, Toast To Our Differences, only added to the party atmosphere. Keyboardist and multi-instrumentalist, Piers Agget dressed in red track suit pants, white t-shirt with a huge red heart on the front and an oversized long hooded white fur coat, constantly encouraged the crowd to scream louder and dance more enthusiastically, dragging every last drop of energy from the adoring crowd as they happily rode along on the wild  Rudimental party bus.

Widely regarded as one of the best live acts in the world today, Rudimental do not disappoint. These guys know how to party and this was one huge love-in rave party! It was sometimes hard to distinguish between the 4 members and their touring group as they all danced around on stage together with everyone having a turn in the spotlight. There seems to be no egos here which is refreshing and rare, they all appeared to show genuine affection for each other which rubbed off onto the crowd!

A key message of the ‘Toast to Our Differences’ album is bringing people together from all walks of life through music, and the message resonates throughout this exuberant performance.

They finish off the one and a half hour set with the classic drum ‘n bass banger ‘Feel The Love’ their first UK #1 single and the rapturous ‘Waiting All Night’

Rudimental you were fantastic!! A must see live! Best reggae inspired rave you could ever be invited to!

This is one band you would want to crash your party!!

Toast to our Differences out now.

DROP NEW SINGLE ‘IN-TO-IT’
+ REVEAL DETAILS OF FORTHCOMING ALBUMPOSITIVE RISING: PART 1 OUT FRIDAY 30 AUGUST

I OH YOU are psyched to announce Australia’s favourite thrash-party hoons, DZ Deathrays, will release their brand new album, Positive Rising: Part 1, on Friday 30 August! To celebrate, the band have just dropped shred-heavy first single ‘IN-TO-IT’ with accompanying video.

VIDEO: ‘IN-TO-IT’ by DZ Deathrays

Fresh from wrapping up their 10 year anniversary tour, DZs have wasted no time getting back into what they do best: serving up head-banging party anthems! As gritty as it is punchy, ‘IN-TO-IT’ sees DZ take a bite into sprechgesang (AKA spoken singing) and it’s delicious. Parsons’ rough vocals narrate the punter living for the weekend, shredding light on Aussie society’s relationship with alcohol and the impact liquor has when used as a coping mechanism.

‘IN-TO-IT’ marks the first taste of DZs’ upcoming fourth studio album Positive Rising: Part 1. The now three-piece, with DZ officially initiating long-term live guitarist Lachlan Ewbankinto the group, have also just signed with Alcopop for the release of the album in the UK and Europe.

Positive Rising: Part 1 was written over 2 weeks in LA and will feature Matt Caughthran of The Bronx and Kirsty Tickle of Exhibitionist, as well as a song co-written with Kim Moyesof The Presets. Produced and mixed by Miro Mackie (St Vincent, Cold War Kids, WAAX) the new record still features DZs’ signature hard-hitting riffs, but this time they explore new territory. They’re still heading to the house party, but this time they’re taking the scenic route!

2018 was a huge year for the band, with their third LP Bloody Lovely debuting at #4 on the ARIA charts & earning them their third ARIA nomination for Best Rock/Heavy Metal Album. Earlier in 2019, DZ Deathrays released a long-awaited hip-hop collab with Australian heavyweights Trials and Briggs and young prodigy Jesswar in ‘Front Row Hustle’.

Not looking to slow down any time soon, DZ are back and ready to take listeners on a one-way trip to destination intoxication! Positive Rising: Part 1 is available for pre-order everywhere now.

MARRAKESH REVEAL DREAMY NEW SINGLE ‘DEFECTIVELY’ OUT NOW

MARRAKESH REVEAL DREAMY NEW SINGLE ‘DEFECTIVELY’ OUT NOW

MARRAKESH REVEAL DREAMY NEW SINGLE ‘DEFECTIVELY’

OUT NOW ON OCTOBER RECORDS

Breakout Brazilian five-piece Marrakesh are quickly making a name for themselves and turning heads with their infectious, indie rock compositions, swirling melodies, potent lyrics and striking visuals. With their debut EP ‘Vassiliki’, the band were invited to play numerous festivals throughout Brazil, and their first major international spot at Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona. Now Marrakesh are looking forward to their first international record label release, with their dreamy new single ‘Defectively’ on October Records.

The soundscape of the single was meticulously crafted with a unique production and arrangement, which is interlaced with rhythmic vocals, gorgeous harmonies, with sonic bursts of colour including a bright saxophone top-line. Accompanying the release, is a striking music video which seamlessly encapsulates the vulnerability of the lyrics. Propelled with exquisite choreography and unique visual footage, the video is an extension of the bands contemporary creative vision.

Further explaining how the song came together Daniel, from the band, explains, “‘Defectively’ was a big step for us as a band because it set apart what we did before and what we were about to do as a group. Bruno Tubino wrote ‘Defectively’ with his ex-girlfriend in a moment of extreme tension. We often feel the guilt of not being perfect and we try to be a flawless being, and it’s impossible to stick to this kind of goal. The song expresses acceptance and non-attachment towards this perfect ideal.”

Among their champions, Australia’s very own What So Not has become somewhat of a mentor to the band; “I ended up in an airport transfer with the Marrakesh guys while on tour in Brazil. I don’t usually hear things that strike me like they did. One song on the aux and I immediately hit up a bunch of friends and labels. It was like maybe Rex Orange County and Jagwa Ma? But totally unique and it’s own thing. Something rare and serendipitous. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with them for the foreseeable future and I can’t wait for the world to hear this group.” Since their chance meeting, the band have been working on various collaborative projects with What So Not, which are expected to be released in the coming months.

Formed in 2014, in Curitiba, a city in the south of Brazil, Marrakesh have been steadily building their presence throughout South America and now setting their sights even further. MONTAIGNE ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE READY, NEW ALBUM COMPLEX OUT AUGUST 30

MONTAIGNE ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE READY, NEW ALBUM COMPLEX OUT AUGUST 30

MONTAIGNE

ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE READY OUT TODAY
NEW ALBUM COMPLEX OUT AUGUST 30  – PREORDER NOW
NATIONAL TOUR IN NOVEMBER

Following on from her national For Your Love single tour in April, Montaigne has today released her new single Ready, and confirmed details of her forthcoming LP and national tour.

Ready is undoubtedly Montaigne’s most anthemic single to date, and is lifted from her soon to be released second album entitled Complex, the follow up to her ARIA Award winning, Top 5 debut album, Glorious HeightsComplex is set for release on August 30 and is available to preorder now, with all preorders scoring a bonus illustrated poster.  There will also be a spectacular limited edition red vinyl of Complex available to preorder, along with CD/vinyl bundles with an environmentally friendly tote bag included.

To celebrate the new record, Montaigne will be hitting the road for her Complex album tour (presented by triple j) in November 2019, kicking off in Adelaide on November 7, then moving through Perth, Fremantle, Maroochydore, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Bendigo, Torquay, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, and finishing up in Wollongong on November 30.  Montaigne has partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 from every ticket goes to support Bush Heritage Australia a national non-profit organisation conserving biodiversity in Australia. www.bushheritage.org.au

New single Ready is a heartfelt call to arms, a soundtrack for activism. There’s an undeniable element of pop to this song as Montaigne’s soaring vocals elevate the chorus, and the irresistible hook ‘I think I’m ready to go, I think I’m ready’, cycles like a mantra around shifting drumbeats.  However, like all of Montaigne’s music, there is a deeper element, a considered purpose for this song, as she explains,  To me the song is about this political moment, where humanity is starting to realise how actually cooked this planet is, that it never had to be like this, and that we have the power now to overthrow those who’ve forced us into this corner. It’s music that I’m proud of representing, because I think that it reflects the feelings swirling around the current political shitfest my generation is facing, and it attempts to transform the anxiety amongst those feelings into angry power. It’s like a fuel source.

Complex is certainly an accurate name for the articulate popstress’ second album.  Themes will range from loneliness, isolation, distorted love narratives, confused sense of self, the desire to escape, self-image issues and self-realisation. All these concepts interact and percolate amongst themselves on Complex, and Montaigne does a spectacular job of expressing herself with eloquence, passion and powerful vocal authority.  Speaking on the inspiration and work behind the album, she says, “The right songs all came together over a couple of years and each song pertains to a different period of my life. It’s basically a series of portraits of all of my insecurities, or the weird relationships I’ve been in, or neurotic feelings I’ve felt while being attracted to others. The album’s like this veil behind which I stashed all these secrets I was keeping from myself.”

Montaigne worked with a wide range of producers on Complex, including long-time collaborator Tony Buchen (Courtney Barnett, The Preatures), Wynne Bennett (Twin Shadow, Janelle Monae), Kyle Shearer (Dua Lipa, Broods, K. Flay), Mozella (Madonna, Miley Cyrus, One Direction), Dave Sitek (TV On The Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Foals), Mario Späte (Tkay Maidza, Urthboy, Allday) and Eric J Dubowsky (Flume, St. Vincent, Dua Lipa).

Montaigne will be playing shows around the country in November to celebrate the release of Complex.  Her unique, theatrical and emotional performance style never fails to impress. Fans should get in early to avoid disappointment.

CITY CALM DOWN

ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM TELEVISION
OUT FRIDAY 23 AUGUST VIA I OH YOU
+ NEW SINGLE ‘STUCK (ON THE EASTERN)’

I OH YOU is thrilled to reveal that City Calm Down will release their much-anticipated third album Television on Friday 23 August. Pre-order the album now here.

Faster, simpler, tougher: This is City Calm Down like you’ve never heard them before.

To celebrate the news of the album’s release, last night the Melbourne outfit premiered huge new single ‘Stuck (On The Eastern)’ on triple j’s Good Nights. “Man, you’ll never reach the end,” sings frontman Jack Bourke. It’s a provocation to think, not follow.

LYRIC VIDEO: ‘Stuck (On The Eastern)’ by City Calm Down

Television is a spectacular record: short, sharp and focused. Recorded with producerBurke Reid (Courtney Barnett, DZ Deathrays, Julia Jacklin) at The Grove Studios in NSW, it sees Jack Bourke (vocals), Sam Mullaly (keys), Jeremy Sonnenberg (bass) and Lee Armstrong (drums) chase something new, without hesitation or second thoughts.
“After 11 years together, it felt like it was time to shake things up and really get out of our comfort zone,” says Jack.
And so City Calm Down stripped back their sound and focused their message: wake up, the world’s happening to you. Sonically, Television is a direct hit to the body, packed with both punk energy and City Calm Down’s trademark emotional intensity. It’s also the band’s finest work yet, following up 2018’s Echoes In Blue and their 2015 debut In A Restless House.

“We set out to make a record that would excite us,” explains Jack. “That meant drawing on influences we grew up listening to and first excited us as kids, bands like bands like The Clash, T.Rex, Midnight Oil, Talking Heads and The Smiths and mixing those influences with artists we’ve come to love as we’ve grown up.

“We’re proud of how different this record is from everything else we’ve done,” he continues.“And we’re f*cking excited to put it out!”

With over 12 million streams so far, City Calm Down’s accomplished songwriting and exhilarating live shows have earned them praise from fans in Australia and across the globe. They’ve had airplay on triple j, RTR, 4ZZZ, UK’s BBC Radio 1 and Radio 6 and more, plus international press coverage from outlets including NMERolling StoneThe 405StereogumConsequence Of SoundIndie ShuffleClashThe Independent, and more. CCD have performed multiple sold-out headline tours and at festivals including Splendour In The Grass, Laneway, The Great Escape, Gold Sounds, Falls, Sugar Mountain, Beyond The Valley, Yours & Owls, and more.
