DAYS LIKE THESE

UNLEASH SOARING NEW

SINGLE “HIGH & GLOW”

FROM ‘WIDE AWAKE’ EP

Brisbane eclectic alternative outfit Days Like These are today returning with brand new single, “High & Glow”, the second single to drop from forthcoming ‘Wide Awake’ EP, releasing Friday May 14.

“High & Glow” pushes boundaries for the band, who credit producer and collaborator Chris Lalic (Windwaker) for helping guide Days Like These into a more refined space and encouraged an exploration of different guitar tuning, song structure and tonal effects. “We were unsure about this song and how it would turn out in the end, but as we were putting the finishing touches on it we all agreed that we were extremely stoked on it” says vocalist Callen Batson.

This second single delves into dark territory sonically with rave-like vibes echoing throughout the track, lending itself perfectly to the context of the single, which explores Batson’s thoughts on substance abuse and partying as a way to mask struggles: “High & Glow takes its theme from my past experiences and thoughts on drugs and partying, and the use of them in our generation to help forget issues in our day to day lives that we would rather just push aside. The dark and rave-like vibe of the song inspired the lyrical content – which is where the initial ideas came from.”

Previous single “Gravity” made its debut at HEAVY Mag and was the first single to release from ‘Wide Awake’. “Gravity” made Music Feeds ‘Favourite Tunes of The Week‘ on release day, made its triple j debut on Short. Fast. Loud and featured in Alternative Press Magazine’s ‘Top 40 Artists You Need To Hear In April‘ who highlighted the polished new sound: With electronic elements scattered throughout, the song introduces their listeners to a redefined sound. Using catchy guitar hooks, the group take a more melodic approach compared to previous releases.”

On top of the release of brand new music, 2021 brought the announcement of the bands first show in over a year. Days Like These joined Belle Haven’s ‘Nobody Likes A Hospital’ tour to play the sold out Brisbane leg at Black Bear Lodge in March alongside Adelaide infectious rock outfit, Alt..

Following on from the success of their first show back, Days Like These released tickets to their own headlining EP launch show at Brisbane’s The Brightside on May 27 supported by Inertia, Deadnerve and Nervous Light – which sold out shortly after announcing! The band recently revealed they will also play main support for Headstrong’s sold out Sydney show at Burdekin Hotel on April 24.

Days Like These is Callen Batson (vocals), Noah Murphy (drums/vocals), Connor Robins, (bass) Jamo Benadie (guitar) and Russell Hodgson (guitar). 2019 welcomed the release of singles “The Absolute” and “Antidote”, highlighting the band as ones to watch in the Brisbane alternative scene and saw the band join Brisbane’s huge ‘Bris Big 4’ Festival with Shorelines, Stepson, The Brave, She Cries Wolf and Deadlights. The end of 2019 saw Days Like These travel to Melbourne and Sydney to play to new audiences before finishing the year with a sold out Brisbane show alongside Ocean Sleeper and Stepson.

Days Like These spent 2020 working tirelessly towards their upcoming ‘Wide Awake’ EP – due out Friday May 14. In the meantime, “Gravity” and “High & Glow” lead the way for what’s to come, and are available now on all digital and streaming platforms.

WILDHEART CALL FOR AUSTRALIA TO WAKE UP WITH NEW SINGLE & VIDEO ‘BACKBURNER’

WILDHEART CALL

FOR AUSTRALIA TO

WAKE UP WITH NEW

SINGLE & VIDEO

‘BACKBURNER’

Founded in 2015 Wildheart are a Brisbane based melodic hardcore band who stormed onto the local scene with their debut release ‘A Thousand Days’. Since that release, the band have established themselves as firebrands and ones to watch, with their hard-hitting messages and music. Wildhearthave slowly yet surely carved themselves a position as a heavy, emotional outfit that demands the attention of punters through their relentless live performances.

Now, they return with their most pressing and important song to date. The new single is called ‘Backburner’ and is out now.

Yugambeh man and Vocalist for Wildheart, Axel Best, says that the song “…was written after Australia bore witness to the worst bushfires we have ever seen. Backburner is about “the government’s continuous refusal to listen, learn and adopt indigenous techniques that were used for thousands of years to preserve and care for the land.”

The song also features powerful words from Indigenous man Bruce Shillingsworth’s speech on ABC’s Q&A program in October 2019 when he called for Australia to “wake up”. When speaking with vocalist Best about the use of his words on the song, Shillingsworth reiterated the message “I believe, and you also believe, that there is an important message to tell the world. Change has to come – We are now guided by our ancestors and spirits to go forward and light up the flames, they can’t put us on the back burner.”

The single was recorded, mixed and mastered by Gareth Hargreaves – and the film clip for the track was filmed and edited by Dan Ramsey of SP\LIT Media!

The release of Backburner on Friday April comes with the band returning to the stage on Saturday April 17 in Brisbane, playing the SOLD OUT Fireball Fest supporting headliners The Dead Love.

In August 2018 the bands sophomore EP ‘We Are’ was released #2 on the iTunes Metal chart, #39 on the overall iTunes chart. First single We Are premiered on killyourstereo.com, being cited as a ‘fresher, larger re-introduction to their sound and intent…’, achieving #6 on the triple j Unearthed Metal chart, as well as #3 on the Indigenous chart to rave reviews from curators. This EP saw a shift in the bands message steering towards issues of more global impact as well as continuing to tie in strong introspective lyrics.

‘Backburner’ out now. Official single artwork below

Wildheart performed BIGSOUND 2018 and has seen regular playtime across various well known platforms such as triple j (having been played on triple j lunch, Short.Fast. Loud, The Racket andHome and Hosed, as well added to rotation on triple j unearthed!) and Spotify’s ‘Homegrown and Heavy’ playlist; and have played alongside heavyweight acts including Casey (UK), Listener (US), Belle Haven, Bare Bones, Young Lions, Deadlights, and Dregg; and hitting the road on several independent East Coast tours.

Ever putting their money where their mouth is, Wildheart have performed in support of multiple not-for-profit organisations including Beyond Blue, Support Act/The Black Dog Foundation, and Sea Shepherd. The band is a proud advocate of an open conversation surrounding mental health and suicide and with the recently released ‘Rising Tide’ in 2019, have shown a strong shift into the discussion on the ongoing racism and discrimination shown towards the first nations people of Australia.

DEFOCUS RELEASE NEW SINGLE /VIDEO ‘THOUGHT OF A VISION’

DEFOCUS RELEASE

NEW SINGLE /VIDEO

‘THOUGHT OF

A VISION’

Freshly signed metalcore quartet DEFOCUS have released their second striking single / video ‘Thought of a Vision’ taken from their upcoming debut »In The Eye Of Death We Are All The Same«, due for release on 2nd July via Arising Empire!

»In The Eye Of Death We Are All The Same« will be available as exclusive pre-order bundles at Impericon.

The driving force and impulsive mood makes this not only the perfect single, ‘Thought of a Vision’ has also manifested itself as the best album opener due to its modern style. Lyrically, the song deals with the controversy of technical progress, which is catching up with humanity more and more. The track is impressively underlined with a music video, created in a close cooperation with visual designer Robin Schmidtke.

“During the songwriting process it was already pretty clear to all of us that ‚Thought of a Vision’ would be the perfect album opener with its driving and impulsive style and that’s how it turned out in the end. At the same time, the song probably reflects the sound of DEFOCUS the best, which is also the reason why we chose ‚Thought of a Vision‘ as the next single.” – Simon (vocals)

With the upcoming release of »In The Eye Of Death We Are All The Same«, DEFOCUS enter the metal scene with a record full of heavy, low-tuned songs. A deep-dive into the world we are living in and how we are all affected by it,  »In The Eye Of Death We Are All The Same« is a punishing album deserving of your attention.

Exceedingly low guitars and driving rhythms are paired with dark and ambient melodies, to create a melancholic atmosphere for their thrilling sound, offering a taste of what’s to come from the promising four-piece.

With the COVID-19 pandemic in full swing DEFOCUS recorded the tracks remotely from home, before they were mixed and mastered by Christoph Wieczorek (ANNISOKAY) from SawdustRecordings, who truly captured their crushing and impulsive take on modern metalcore.

Founded by Simon Müller, Jeffrey Uhlmann, Jonas Mahler and Marcel “Bambam” Heberling, the Aalen quartet spent time making music together before coming to light in early 2019, instantly proving their worth in the scene with their energetic live shows. Faced with the global COVID-19 pandemic, DEFOCUS got to work on their material through countless extensive late-night online sessions, allowing every member to contribute their individual ideas and emotions.

“I remember that when we started to write all this material, everyone was on the same page from the beginning and we knew exactly which direction we wanted to go, but at the same time everyone took inspiration from different sources. Seeing all this material finally come together in the end makes me super happy, because the writing process and everything around it really defined who we are as a band and resulted in a pure milestone everyone in the band can 100% identify with.” – Jeffrey

SAYAH SOMEHOW MAKES ‘F*CK YOU’ SOUND LIKE A COMPLIMENT WITH HER NEW SINGLE ‘FRUIT’

SAYAH SOMEHOW MAKES ‘F*CK YOU’ SOUND LIKE A COMPLIMENT WITH HER NEW SINGLE ‘FRUIT’

SAYAH SOMEHOW MAKES

F*CK YOU’ SOUND LIKE A

COMPLIMENT WITH HER

NEW SINGLE ‘FRUIT’

SAYAH returns to the spotlight today with her new single ‘Fruit’. The unashamedly cheeky track is a slice of SAYAH speaking her mind. The song sees SAYAH delve into a more straight up pop sound, with her emotive voice showcasing why she has been a highly sought after lead vocalist by Peking Duk, Set Mo and Cosmo’s Midnight.

On the new single, SAYAH says the inspiration came from “When you’ve got an insane connection with someone but you know they’re not good for you, so you try everything to move on including seeing new people.. But no matter what, they’re always on your mind and it’s so freaking annoying!!! At the same time, you also kinda love it.. Ughhh the confusion!!”

The last 2 years has seen SAYAH focused on writing and responding to other artists’ requests to perform with them. In 2021, SAYAH will be the  feature lead vocalist for Cosmo’s Midnightshows, and has recently performed with Peking Duk, Set Mo in 2019-20 (including Splendour In The Grass) and has been an in-demand backing vocalist for various artists doing Like A Version at triple j including Safia, Thandi Phoenix, KLP, and Cosmo’s Midnight.

‘Fruit’ was recorded at Taka Perry’s home studio in Sydney, and mixed by Simon Cohen atStudios 301. “Keppie Coutts (co-writer of Fruit) and I wrote this song, she seeded the idea and came to me with the concept and it was crazy because I was literally going through that exact scenario at the time. It was like she had read my mind and we wrote the rest of the song within half an hour.”
SAYAH

SAYAH writes confessional pop tracks that make your mum blush. She is a trained jazz vocalist and has the ability to play the piano backwards due to hyper-mobile joints.  SAYAH’s heart-expanding vocals have captured the attention of her peers. It makes you understand why SAYAH sits so comfortably in second gear.

PRAISE FOR SAYAH

“He’s Not Over Me’, follows the grimy electro vibe of ‘Bad Drug’ with brooding verses giving way to a jittering, explosive chorus, all presided over by SAYAH’s gorgeous, emotive, full-bodied vocals”.

“This is an all-time classic Australian song that all of us love. It’s a pleasure to sing it and I don’t know why we didn’t do it earlier.

We’re very proud to dedicate this release to our friend Michael Gudinski who was a huge supporter of Australian music and The Teskey Brothers. Our two worlds collided and we will always be grateful for that.” – Josh Teskey

To celebrate the release, the band has just announced a special headline show at The Forum Theatre in Melbourne on Wednesday April 21st. Tickets will go onsale next Tuesday 13th April at 9am.

This show follows the band’s run of dates across the country as part of the Summersalt Festival alongside fellow local heavyweights Boy & Bear, The Cat Empire, John Butler, Montaigne & more.

The Teskey Brothers rounded out 2020 with a special hour-long performance alongside Orchestra Victoria at Hamer Hall, whereby the band collaborated with the 45-piece orchestra to bring their catalogue to life, reimagined by arranger Jamie Messenger and led by conductor Nicholas Buc. The event followed an ARIA Award win for Best Blues & Roots Album for their #1 ARIA chart-topping LP, Live At The Forum. HILDEGARD DETAIL SELF-TITLED DEBUT LP – OUT FRIDAY 4 JUNE

HILDEGARD DETAIL SELF-TITLED DEBUT LP – OUT FRIDAY 4 JUNE

HILDEGARD DETAIL

SELF-TITLED DEBUT LP –

OUT FRIDAY 4 JUNE

Over just eight days in the studio in 2018, experimental singer-songwriter Helena Delandand multi-instrumentalist and producer Ouri (Ourielle Auvé) discovered an innate creative connection, building and bouncing ideas off of one another, developing an intuitive approach to composition and sound. The resulting self-titled album, Hildegard is wholly its own. Out on Friday 4 June as the debut release on newly launched label section1, Deland and Ouri have also shared the propulsive and thrilling opening track – ‘Jour 1’ – with an accompanying music video. The duo describes ‘Jour 1’ as being “about processing by partying, and the clarity that sometimes comes with it.”

WATCH: ‘Jour 1’ by Hildegard

The eight tracks on Hildegard fuse together into a sonic sphere, and are named for each day Deland and Ouri spent together. Deland’s folk background balances against Ouri’s nocturnal world of electronic and dance music. Two figures find space to meet, somewhere between light and dark, liquid and solid, heaven and earth. They weave in and out of each other. Weightless vocals and aphoristic lyrics hover over kinetic beats and throbbing bass. The meeting place sounds something like dusk, or dawn.

From this alchemy arises the figure of mystic, healer, composer, and visionary 12th century nun, Hildegard of Bingen, from whom Deland and Ouri drew inspiration. Hildegard was a woman of science, music, and spirituality, as well as a symbol of nurturing strength. In her 12th century presence, she wrote prophecies, poems, and treatises; she experienced otherworldly visions and recorded them, passing them down through generations. Deland and Ouri invoke Hildegard as a carrier of the magic they felt working with each other, the separate entity that was born as they blended together. Artist Melissa Matos developed a visual language for the project that reflects this melding and switching of identities, imagining Hildegard as both a contemporary and historic presence. A tangling of two identities beyond the possibility of retreat.

Hildegard is a testament to the intensity of coming together, losing yourself in one another, emerging as something new. Throughout the album, the boundaries between self and other are thin as light. Call and response grow into a third element: the sound of a fantasy, a nightmare. Or maybe even a vision.

Last month Hildegard released another album highlight, ‘Jour 2’ and saw coverage from PitchforkFader, Paste, and Gorilla vs. Bear who said that the duo “left us enchanted and clamoring for more of their thrilling and transportive experimental electronic pop.”

Hildegard will be the first release from section1, a newly launched label in partnership with Partisan Records. section1 is the brainchild of Brontë Jane (VP of A&R at Third Side Music) alongside Chris Robbins and Tom Wironen of Friendly Announcer management (Big Thief, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Westerman, etc), who are all longtime friends of Partisan. More news on additional section1 releases to be announced soon.

MICRA RELEASE TWO-TRACKER ‘UNDERCOVER LOVER’ AND ‘I SHOULDN’T HAVE LISTENED’

MICRA RELEASE TWO-TRACKER ‘UNDERCOVER LOVER’ AND ‘I SHOULDN’T HAVE LISTENED’

MICRA RELEASE TWO-TRACKER

‘UNDERCOVER LOVER’ AND

‘I SHOULDN’T HAVE LISTENED’

Sydney-based rising dream-pop duo Micra – Ivana Kafedjiyska and Robbie Cain – share their dynamic two-tracker ‘Undercover Lover’ and ‘I Shouldn’t Have Listened’.

A cathartic track with swelling synths, engrossing bass and compelling production, ‘Undercover Lover’ explores the process of surrendering:

“There are some people in your life that go under the radar or your circumstances don’t allow you to fully connect. This song is about when all the bullshit is done and you can just let your guard down to be with someone who’s been under your nose the whole time.”

LISTEN: Micra – ‘Undercover Lover’

‘Undercover Lover’s’ intoxicating slow-burn is boldly juxtaposed against the rockier ‘I Shouldn’t Have Listened’. With an energetic beat and memorable hooks, the synergy between the duo’s intuitive production and complex songwriting makes room for the track’s unexpected twists and turns. As Micra explain, the song’s intensity comes from emotional pain:

“Letting other people’s thoughts dictate your actions never ends in satisfaction, yet we still do it all the time. Sometimes this can be a little different in the case of chasing after someone. Other people can see the situation clearly when you are not able to. This song is about a time when indecision and external influences led to a whole lot of hurt.”

The two-tracker is a neat follow-up to Micra’s previous single ‘Sonata’, a hypnotic track which strengthened their position in the dream-pop landscape and saw extensive support from indie-tastemakers globally including David Dean Burkhart, as well as major playlisting across DSPs. ‘Sonata’ was also playlisted by TikTok on release.

During a tumultuous 2020, Micra kept busy by releasing a steady flow of singles with accompanying DIY live videos, finishing the year off with a breezy, hypnotic cover of Ou Est Le Swimming Pool’s hit ‘Dance The Way I Feel’. Previous single ‘Coral Crush’ explored a more pop-centric side to the duo and was coined by Pilerats as “a masterclass in the excellence Micra has consistently shown us over the last few years”. Whilst earlier release ‘Under My Skin’ was named Clash Music’s ‘Track of the Day’ and was added to RUFUS DU SOL’s ‘Headphone Selections’ playlist.

A sonic experiment from Bulgarian born and raised singer/ guitarist Ivana Kafedjiyska and Australian guitarist/producer Robbie Cain, the duo performed a flurry of impressive, sold-out shows at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory and La La La’s in Wollongong in November last year. Micra will perform at Pressure Fest in Sydney on April 24.

DROWN THIS CITY RETURN WITH THUMPING NEW SINGLE ‘NEW BURN ORDER’ + MUSIC VIDEO OUT NOW

DROWN THIS CITY RETURN WITH THUMPING NEW SINGLE ‘NEW BURN ORDER’ + MUSIC VIDEO OUT NOW

DROWN THIS CITY
RETURN WITH THUMPING

NEW SINGLE
NEW BURN ORDER

+ MUSIC VIDEO OUT NOW

Melbourne outfit Drown This City return with their thrashing new single and video ‘New Burn Order’ today after the track’s premiere on triple j’s short.fast.loud last night. The release marks the first taste of new music from Drown This City in 2021 and comes alongside the announce of new bassist/vocalist Toby Thomas joining the group.

‘New Burn Order’ paints a hauntingly stark picture of DTC vocalist Alex Reade’s rejection and detachment from her family at a young age. Listeners will find the song’s character breaking free from her abandonment to join a cult for a sense of belonging. Reade shares that writing from the perspective of a character to express herself ultimately allowed her to go to places she had previously been too uncomfortable to express.

On the story behind the track she shares: “There’s a line that says ‘You said you were ashamed to share my DNA, I’m sorry to tell you we are counterparts – mirror image, blurred view’… I want to tell them we are cut from the same cloth, my destruction is their destruction, my shame is their shame. They don’t have what it takes to survive this and I’m going to show them I do,” adding:

“While you are not responsible for what happens to you, but you are for how you react. True freedom is acceptance that all our feelings, hurts, pains, vices, they belong to us now and we must battle them alone – carry them with pride – I’m not burning to be annihilated but to be cleansed and set free.”

After joining the UNFD family in 2019, Drown This City released their colossal sophomore EP Alpha // Survivor.  Warring with the idea of both a powerful survivor and a broken victim residing in herself, Alpha // Survivor captures vocalist Reade’s journey rising above pain in power.

A fierce six-track package of strength and triumph, the release was quickly announced as Feature Album on heavy music radio juggernauts The Faction, its singles climbed to #1 on the Unearthed Metal chart and swiftly added to rotation. Outlets including Distorted Sound classed the record in the upper echelons of releases that year, commenting “this is a well rounded collection of songs that offer a true glimpse into what this exciting group are capable of.”

Drown This City play the Melbourne leg of Full Tilt Festival alongside Northlane, Hands Like Houses, Thy Art Is Murder, Luca Brasi, Slowly Slowly, Make Them Suffer + more in July and are set to support In Hearts Wake on their national tour in November.

CROSSFAITH REVEAL NEW SINGLE ‘REDZONE’

CROSSFAITH
REVEAL NEW SINGLE

REDZONE

Japanese genre-blenders, Crossfaith have released THEIR brand new single, ‘RedZone’ today.

Speaking of the song, frontman, Kenta Koie, says, “We’re so excited about RedZone. We wrote it for a video game, based on one of Japan’s most famous military sci-fi anime series, GUNDAM. The world is still fighting with COVID-19, and right now we can’t tour outside Japan, but we hope you guys can keep jamming this track until we’re back on the road.”

‘RedZone’ is the second song to be released this year from the genre-five-piece, following February’s ‘Dead or Alive’. Not normally an outfit that sits still, the band’s 2020 was heavily affected by the global pandemic, but not before the band completed a 23-date UK and European headline tour, in support of their ‘SPECIES’ EP, a release that marked the end of the band’s successful two year ‘EX_MACHINA’ album cycle.

While the rest of the world continues to take steps towards normality, Koie is keen to share that the band are still hard at it and that “you can expect more new releases from Crossfaith soon!”

HOKO release official music video for latest single ‘Big Mistake’

HOKO release official music video for latest single ‘Big Mistake’

HOKO

release official music video for latest single

Big Mistake

Fresh off the back of the release of their debut project HEATHEN, New York’s HOKO have released a new set of visuals for their latest single, ‘Big Mistake’.

Directed by James Mountford, the video puts HOKO songwriter and lead vocalist Nathaniel Hoho to work, bringing new energy to an already spirited original.

As part of the wider HEATHEN EP, ‘Big Mistake’ is a standout point for HOKO – the song is a fleshed out and fully realised example of the type of band they are. Striking and captivating at their core.

A  track that focuses on the dissolution of relationships, viewed through a sharp and entertaining indie pop lens, ‘Big Mistake’ is anything but for HOKO. It’s a touchstone release for the group, who have been taking strides since their inception only a few years ago.

“I feel like most songs come to you and write themselves through you, but I’m pretty sure ‘Big Mistake’ is a song about some of my exes. It’s a pop song with sitars and yoyos weaved through it; it’s a perfect example of the line we wanted to walk for HOKO. Exploring pop but keeping it unique and a little cynical. For the record, I have no hard feelings towards any of my exes who may read this; everyone is someone’s Big Mistake, I know I am!” Nathaniel Hoho, HOKO

Recently, HOKO took part in Rolling Stone Australia’s ‘In My Room’ series, where they performed ‘Big Mistake’ as well as ‘Starlite’ and ‘Hellogoodbye’ in a special stripped back style.

Says Rolling Stone of ‘Big Mistake in particular, it is ‘a track that perfectly helps to encapsulate the HOKO sound, in this case features Hoho’s Weeknd-esque voice, and luscious, subtle backing instrumentation that mix ambient soundscapes with electronic melodies.’

PRAISE FOR HOKO

“HEATHEN is an album that sees HOKO fully flex on their ability to produce music that is likeable for almost everyone. Pushing the boundaries on all types of sounds, they really have a knack for producing tunes that sucks the listener in and takes them on a ride.”
AAA Backstage
“The EP is a stunning showcase of a band who are likely set to be household names in no time.”

POLARIS ANNOUNCE THE VAGABOND TOUR & RELEASE AN EPIC MUSIC VIDEO FOR VAGABOND

POLARIS ANNOUNCE THE VAGABOND TOUR & RELEASE AN EPIC MUSIC VIDEO FOR VAGABOND

POLARIS
ANNOUNCE THE VAGABOND TOUR
& RELEASE AN EPIC MUSIC VIDEO FOR VAGABOND

Sydney metalcore outfit Polaris are stoked to announce the Vagabond Tour which will see the band hit regional spots on the east coast throughout June with special guests, Deadlights.

“It’s turned out to be kind of ironic that the lyrics of “Vagabond” mention this idea that “nowhere feels like home”, which was originally a reference to constantly being on the move when we were touring… But after the last year of being unable to tour and travel, there were a lot of times when our actual homes didn’t really feel like home either, because where we really wanted to be was out travelling the world and playing shows! We are so psyched to finally shake the rust off and get back on the road after what will have been 16 months away from doing what we love most. We’ll be hitting some of those little pockets of the East Coast that we don’t get out to as often, as well as some spots that we’ve never been out to before.” says drummer Daniel Furnari.

To coincide with the tour announcement, Polaris reveal an epic music video for Vagabond, taken from their ARIA Nominated and #3 ARIA Album Chart debut record, The Death Of Me.

Drawing visual inspiration from classic movies such as Mad Max, Star Wars, Dune and Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and the aesthetics of festivals like Burning Man and Rainbow Serpent, the Vagabond music video was filmed entirely outdoors and shot in natural locations. Filming outdoors had it’s challenges such as facing high winds, intense heat, military planes flying overhead and a whole lot of factors which made filming a very interesting experience.

Watch the official Vagabond music video here:

This video has been a long time in the making, and is probably the most ambitious visual project we’ve ever worked on. When we first considered doing a video for ‘Vagabond’ we knew that the vibrant sunny attitude of the song’s chorus was something we wanted to reflect in the visuals – something a lot brighter than what we’d normally go for. The name of the song and the sound of the intro guitar motif had always inspired desert imagery for us so we began the concept focusing more on the visual ideas we wanted to accomplish, with the narrative then forming naturally around those images and elements of the song’s lyrics.” says vocalist/bassist, Jake Steinhauser.

He adds, “With the initial idea for the video having been conceived in early 2020 there was also a desire to show off the beautiful Australian landscape we’re lucky enough to call our backyard – a landscape that had recently been ravaged by a very long and intense bushfire season.
Over the months that followed, a series of lockdowns, interstate travel restrictions, and wild weather conditions all created complications for us. But between us and our friends Kez Ellis-Jones and Chris Elder, who worked on the video with us, we adapted and kept pushing ahead because we were all determined to see it brought to life. We had a lot of fun getting heavily into the concept with the outfits we put together to create our own little post-apocalyptic cinematic world.”

While Daniel Furnari includes, “Getting to film that big “desert-rave” scene that closes out the video was so special. Something that we felt had been missing from ours and so many peoples’ lives over the last year was the ability to get together with a large group of people and just celebrate life through music and dancing and self-expression. That search for a sense of community and togetherness not only became the driving force for the characters in the video’s narrative, but also allowed us to do something that temporarily filled that void in real life for a night! And the best thing was that we could see that all the friends who jumped on board to be extras had been really craving that too, and I think that’s why so many of them were willing to get around the idea, put together wild costumes for themselves and and trek into the dunes at night – they had missed it as much as we had, and there was a really exciting energy in the air because of that.

So much planning and crazy logistics went into that scene and there were so many points where we thought we wouldn’t be able to pull it off. When night fell and we were about to start shooting, we finally turned around and saw the location lit up and filled with all these people in these amazing colourful outfits and we couldn’t believe our eyes!”

The Vagabond Tour kicks off on June 10 and is supported by Brisbane post-hardcore band, Deadlights.

Deadlights have gone on to become a household name within the Australian alternative scene supporting acts such as Parkway Drive, Thy Art Is Murder, Every Time I Die, and so many more; dropping ever more creative singles along the way with Bathed In Venom and Sugarcoated Psychosis.

BLOW RELEASE NEW SINGLE ‘FULL DELIGHT’

BLOW RELEASE NEW SINGLE ‘FULL DELIGHT’

BLOW

RELEASE NEW SINGLE

FULL DELIGHT

French electronic pop band BLOW release a new single, ‘Full Delight’. It’s the first taste of the Parisian three piece’s soon-to-be-announced forthcoming second album – the follow up to  2018 debut Vertigo, and has been produced by Kitsuné-fostered talent Crayon (who’s previously collaborated with Phoenix, Yuksek and Simian Mobile Disco). ‘Full Delight’ is now streaming on all platforms – alongside a live session video shot by Rodrigue Huart (Her) .

Bubbling with a sedated sensuality rippling out from Thomas Clarice’s (formerly also a touring member of Her) lithe baselines to the languid, near-spoken vocals of Quentin Guglielmi, ‘Full Delight’ arrives alongside a live video shot by Huart and fast-rising production agency Paume (Wizkid, Burnaboy, Stormzy) in a deserted Parisian bistro.

Speaking about ‘Full Delight’ – which skewers its sunny title and lush tones with a rueful takedown of the transactional anonymity of modern society – BLOW say; Dark lyrics on light music. This sets the tone for our new album, whose main topic is duality. We often expose, threaten, get loved and love ourselves. Our society is increasingly contradictory. As beautiful as it is terrifying. Stardust lands on our closed eyelids. We only dream of a shallow life and race solo. It’s a full delight.

‘Full Delight’ is the first fruits of a creative left turn from BLOW following the release of Vertigo. Driven by an instinct to leaven the completely electronic textures which defined the band’s debut EPs and album release with more organic sounds, here Crayon keeps the layered synths integral to BLOW’s blissed out sound in balance with Jean-Etienne Maillard’s alternately gauzy and rich guitar lines.
