“Like the country, this game is unique in the world, and I’m more than happy to be part of this year’s Telstra AFL Pre-Match Show. I look forward to watching the big men fly,” – COLIN HAY

While Scottish born Colin Hay may be best known as the songwriter, lead vocal and guitarist for Australian Grammy winners and multi-platinum selling hit makers Men At Work, he has received acclaim for his troubadour-style solo career, and some 13 solo albums, spanning the last 30 odd years. The last few years have been particularly rewarding for Colin, touring Europe, the US, Australia and New Zealand with his US band and being part of Ringo Starr’s All Starr Band, penning the title track, “What’s My Name”, for Ringo’s last album.

Colin has also performed on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and ABC’s Greatest Hits. In addition, Colin has shared the stage with iconic bands including Squeeze, Kings of Leon and Of Monsters and Men, and has been the subject of a documentary film about his career entitled Waiting for My Real Life, named for one of his best-known solo recordings. In a departure from his own musical path, Colin played Feste, in the Melbourne Theatre Company’s acclaimed 2019 production of Shakespeare’s 12th Night.

Now finding himself in the unprecedented place of having both Men At Work fame and a continuing growing following, Colin has released an album of cover songs he recorded during lockdown. Exploring the gems he heard growing up in his parent’s music shop, “I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself”, features 10 versions of some of Colin’s particular favorites. These lushly arranged versions showcase Hay’s ability to interpret a song and remind one just how instantly recognizable his voice is. Colin also has a new album of original material entitled “Now And The Evermore”, due for an early 2022 release. “I remain ever hopeful about the future, and feel grateful to be still working, during these difficult and unprecedented times.”

We Sing” through Magabala Books in September.Noongar singer-songwriter Gina Williams AM is a rare performer who captures hearts and imaginations by connecting deeply through the power of song. With less than 400 speakers of this language left, Gina – alongside Guy – brings a modern take on ancient traditions, matching powerful storytelling and that incredible, incandescent voice. There are few guitarists who connect to their music and perform without compromise like Guy Ghouse, one of the most respected guitarists in Australia, as a producer, artistic director, collaborator or any role where his guitar and music has a place. With Gina, he continues with his passion for preserving language through music.

But in all seriousness, I can’t believe I have been given this opportunity, I am a lifelong fan of the game so to be on that stage performing will be a huge spin out, and to be doing it with John, Gina, Guy, Donna and Vikki makes it even more special.” – STELLA DONNELLY

MIKE TAVEIRA DROPS

NEW SINGLE “SEX FOR

BREAKFAST (FT. ALLIE X)”

Rising queer pop star Mike Taveira returns with his new single, “Sex for Breakfast (ft. Allie X),” from his forthcoming debut EP, ‘Cut Velvet.’ Due out in early 2022, ‘Cut Velvet’ is a glittering record of spacey 80s new-wave and rudimentary 70s synths balanced precariously over slap bass and funk grooves. It’s a conceptual record that chronicles Mike’s wide-eyed move to Los Angeles, the rise and fall of young love, and all the predators along the way.

“Sex For Breakfast” is the second single to be released from ‘Cut Velvet,’ following the lead single, “Switch,” which was released earlier this summer. Featuring indie-pop superstar Allie X, “Sex for Breakfast” is a synth-fueled anthem packed with suggestive lyrical wordplay and beats that will get you moving.

’Sex for Breakfast’ was one of those lightning-in-a-bottle songs,” Mike says of the new song. “The idea came to me after an intense morning with this guy I was head over heels for. We were essentially dating but kept pretending it was a fling. We ended up in this almost masochistic cat-and-mouse game, knowing we were so right together but both being too uncomfortable to admit it.”

Los Angeles-based Mike Taveira makes music that is wild, fun, and unabashedly queer. He showcases an infectious pop sensibility while tackling the complexities and vulnerability of sexual identity, love, gender and sex. Since making his artist debut in 2019, Mike has received praise from tastemakers like Billboard Pride, Gay Times, PRIDE, and Attitude. With an underlying message that preaches to be true to yourself, whoever you love, whatever you identity as, and whatever life throws your way, Mike is a vibrant force in the evolution of queer pop.

WILDHEART ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM ‘GLOBAL CRISIS’ RELEASE NEW SINGLE/VIDEO

WILDHEART ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM ‘GLOBAL CRISIS’ RELEASE NEW SINGLE/VIDEO

WILDHEART ANNOUNCE

DEBUT ALBUM ‘GLOBAL

CRISIS’ RELEASE

NEW SINGLE/VIDEO

To be someone with a Wild heart means to be passionate, strong in conviction and have a willingness to stick the course and see it through. South-East Queensland-based hardcore act Wildheartexemplify this conviction, this passionate dedication to telling stories of truth and unearthing injustice through their music.

They reveal the fruits of their labour, the announcement of their debut album, Global Crisis. And if their words on the record seem angry, it’s because they are. The record contains 13 incendiary tracks – passionate, furious and raw – recorded, mixed and mastered by Gareth Hargreaves.

Global Crisis will be released on Friday 5th November, through Collision Course and MGM Distribution – and will be available through all digital platforms, which can be pre-ordered/pre-saved digitally at http://ffm.to/globalcrisis. Vinyl and Merch bundles can be pre-ordered at https://www.wearewildheart.com.au/store.

Along with the announcement of this new album, comes introspective, but no less raging new single ‘Show Me What It’s Like to Be Worthless.’ From Yugambeh man Axel Best, frontman for Wildheart, the new single is “…one of the more melodic songs we have written and is probably one of the darkest taken from the upcoming album. There has been an insane amount of uncertainty over the past few years with everything that has happened both locally and internationally – and we wanted to tap into something lyrically dark, but moving, with this song.”

Blunt Mag said: “For the hardcore hellions in Queensland outfit Wildheart, the sky really is the limit. Not only are they set to tear shit up at next year’s monolithic UNIFY Gathering, but they’re set to do so with a whole album of intensely ferocious mosh anthems.”

Though there have been a few tastes of Global Crisis already released – singles Rising Tide, Backburner and False Hope, Fake Happiness are already out in the world, there are still 9 new tracks to dive into. Shaun Allen from Gold Coast band Nerve Damage featured on ‘Rising Tide’, the iconic speech from Bruce Shillingsworth’s Q&A appearance featured at the start of ‘Backburner’ and still to come is a feature vocal spot from Danielle O’Grady from Brisbane band All Hours features on ‘The Long Slow Whisper’.

On the live front, Wildheart are performing at October 2021’s Halloween Hysteria alongside Spiderbait, King Parrot and Mammal and were recently announced as one of the performers confirmed on the UNIFY FOREVER (2022) line-up, alongside The Amity Affliction, Violent Soho, Alpha Wolf and more!

Wildheart’s history is storied and impressive. They have performed at BIGSOUND 2018 and the Mountain Goat Valley Crawl and has seen regular playtime across various well known platforms such as triple j (having been played on triple j lunch, Short.Fast. Loud, The Racket and Home and Hosed, as well as multiple songs added to rotation on triple j unearthed!) and Spotify’s ‘Homegrown and Heavy’ playlist; and have played alongside heavyweight acts including Casey (UK), Listener (US), The Brave, Deez Nuts, Belle Haven, Bare Bones, Young Lions, Deadlights, and Dregg; and hitting the road on several independent East Coast tours.

SPIRITBOX HIGHLY ANTICIPATED DEBUT ALBUM ‘ETERNAL BLUE’ OUT NOW VIA RISE RECORDS

SPIRITBOX HIGHLY

ANTICIPATED DEBUT

ALBUM ‘ETERNAL BLUE’

OUT NOW

VIA RISE RECORDS

The wait is finally over! The release of SPIRITBOX’s ‘Eternal Blue’, one of the mostly hotly anticipated debut albums in recent years, is upon us.

The release rolls in on a tsunami of critical acclaim and perfect score reviews with Metal Injectionstating “Eternal Blue will be remembered as a game changer, the kind of total reset of the rulebook we saw in Slipknot’s debut” in their 10/10 review, Kerrang! Magazine calling it the ‘debut of the year’ in their 5/5 review, Outburn Magazine calling it “a modern metal masterpiece” in their 10/10 review and Metal Hammer hailing ‘Eternal Blue’ as a “staggeringly brilliant record that resoundingly delivers on the hype” in their 4.5/5 review. Find Eternal Blue on all streaming platforms here and stream the video playlist on YouTube here.

SPIRITBOX – one of the hottest new bands in heavy music, thrilled fans back in May with the official announcement of their long awaited debut album, ‘Eternal Blue’. The band sold out of all vinyl pre-orders within the first 24 hours of announcement and on- sale.

Five songs have been released from the album prior to today. First came the unrelentingly brutal “Holy Roller” in September 2020. It debuted at #25 on Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs and charted as the #1 song of 2020 on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal.

Then came heartbreaking and otherworldly “Constance” which recently re-entered the Billboard chats #1 Hard Rock Digital Song Sales, #4 Rock Songs Core Genre, #19 Hot Hard Rock Songs following the release of the very special reimagining of “Constance (Acoustic)”.

Next came the album announcement along with new track “Circle With Me” which charted on Billboard at #1 Hard Rock Digital Song Sales, #5 Hot Hard Rock Songs, #9 Rock Songs Core Genre, #12 Rock Digital Songs, #50 Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, #71 Digital Songs. “Secret Garden” followed and most recently, “Hurt You”. Between them, they have clocked up a staggering 53 million streams across streaming platforms to date.

Spiritbox’s ‘Eternal Blue’ is out now – with all details, streaming, digital and merch bundles here.

What Aussie Media Are Saying about ‘Eternal Blue’

“Eternal Blue is a stunning record, the kind that artists spend their whole lives trying to create. The fact they’ve hit these heights on their debut is mind-blowing.” – 10/10 – Hysteria Mag

“You may find yourself wiping away tears when you reach the end of Eternal Blue, but that’s because Spiritbox have crafted this incredible album that connects with the listener on an emotional level and takes them on a journey of self-discovery, empathy and overcoming.” – Wall of Sound

“From lurching instrumentals to swirling warmth and austerity, there’s a staggering weight behind everything the Spiritbox light touches. Ultimately offering a bewitching lesson in duality and impetuous beauty, Eternal Blue is a true and exciting journey that will keep you guessing right until the end, stealing and ultimately healing your heart under the guise of an alt metal album.” – TheMusic.com.au

“Their soundscapes reign with combination of bruising, down-tuned crunch, soul-numbing cymbal crashes, kaleidoscopic synths, and vocals that span wistful, Disney-esque melodies to vicious, barbed-wire bellows.” – Blunt Mag

“‘Eternal Blue’ is a colossal statement showcasing the tonal and genre fluidity that this band expertly wields. Spiritbox have existed for a couple of years, with killer EPs and singles under their belts already, yet ‘Eternal Blue’ is like a new beginning for the Canadian group. They’re only just getting started.” – killyourstereo.com

“Eternal Blue is a record greater than any one track, one riff, one melody. It feels entirely purposeful, fleshed out, with no holds barred and nothing left unsaid… It is beautifully crafted, nuanced, and subtle, a body of work that deserves a front to back listen – many times over.” – Heavy Mag

DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979 TAKE YOU ON A JOURNEY WITH AN ELECTRIFYING COVER OF ‘DON’T STOP BELIEVING’

DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979 TAKE YOU ON A JOURNEY WITH AN ELECTRIFYING COVER OF ‘DON’T STOP BELIEVING’

DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979

TAKE YOU ON A JOURNEY

WITH AN ELECTRIFYING

COVER OF

‘DON’T STOP BELIEVING’

40 Years after Journey took the world by storm with their iconic hit ‘Don’t Stop Believing’, Canadian duo Death From Above 1979 – made up of Sebastien Grainger and Jesse F. Keeler -have unveiled their own unique version, exclusively for Amazon Music.

The song, which has woven its way into the fabric of pop culture, with appearances in everything from The Sopranos to Moneyball to Sesame Street, finds the Toronto two-piece putting a characteristically ferocious DFA spin on it.

We made a kind of witchy version of the song that would make Steve Perry magically join Journey again,” said Sebastien Grainger of Death From Above 1979.

Fans can hear the track now on Rock Scene, Amazon Music’s home for the most exciting new rock music from around the world.

Earlier this year, Death From Above 1979 released their highly anticipated fourth studio album, Is 4 Lovers. To record this album, the pair locked themselves away for several weeks in a single room basement in Los Angeles’s Highland Park to see what would happen and eventually emerged with the purest distillation yet of the power, precision and nuanced personality at the heart of DFA’s unique and influential vision. Written, recorded, produced and mastered by the duo, their fourth album was born, and DFA has never sounded more assuredly like itself than it does on Is 4 Lovers.

NEW SINGLE / VIDEO

‘SO SAD’ FROM UPCOMING

ALBUM ‘COMA’

THECITYISOURS release their self-reflective new single ‘So Sad’ taken from the band’s sophomore album ‘COMA’. The album is set for release 22nd October 2021 via Arising Empire.

All good things must come to an end, and ‘So Sad’ is about just that. Speaking on their latest offing, Mikey Page remarks: “So Sad is about trying to come to terms with the decision to end something you feel is great, and processing the subsequent fallout. This was an interesting one for us as the lyrics came from two completely separate viewpoints. We have always been advocates for making music people can relate to in their own way and take from it what they need. This was the first time we really explored that idea consciously within ourselves to collaborate in a way that told both angles of the story, leaving the door open for interpretation from the listener.”

‘COMA’ was recorded, engineered and mixed by long-time collaborator Oz Craggs (FEED THE RHINO, NECK DEEP, MALLORY KNOX) at Hidden Track Studios and mastered by Ermin Hamidovic (ARCHITECTS, PERIPHERY, NORTHLANE) at Systematic Productions.’ Following the departure of long-standing vocalist Sam Stolliday (full statement HERE), the band unexpectedly found themselves in unknown territory. 12 months on, they are back with the introduction of new vocalist Oli Duncanson and ready to welcome a brand new era of TCIO.

Oli recounts “I remember being shown some demos of some new songs prior to Sam’s departure and absolutely loving the direction and progression of the band’s sound… so as soon as Mikey told me about the opening in the band, I knew I had to take a chance!” Page adds “Oli has been a part of our team for a long time. He is a very well respected entity in his own right amongst the music scene. We’d seen snippets of his capabilities over the years, so when he registered an interest in becoming a part of CITY, we knew we had to explore…and we clicked instantly.”

THECITYISOURS is a 5-piece metal band from London who has quickly garnered attention and growing support for peers, industry and fans alike, with their high-octane live show and the success of their debut album. »LOW« (2019) smashed into the top 5 iTunes metal charts with several singles appearing in editorial playlists with the likes of Amazon, Deezer and Spotify (Including 2 covers on New Core and Metal UK) supporting the band.

2019 was a very busy year for TCIO, with appearances at a slew of UK festivals including Camden Rocks, Macmillan Fest, Burn It Down, Holloween, a fly in appearance at High Fives Festival in Sweden, a headline set in the Doghouse Tent at the revered Download Festival to a 4000+ audience of festival-goers, and a sold-out album release show at Boston Music Rooms in London. Be sure to keep an eye on THECITYISOURS in 2021.

SANNIA UNVEILS FRESH BOP ‘SAD RICH GIRLS’

SANNIA UNVEILS FRESH BOP ‘SAD RICH GIRLS’

SANNIA UNVEILS

FRESH BOP

‘SAD RICH GIRLS’

Traversing her own wave of indie luxe-pop, Melbourne’s SANNIA returns with new single ‘Sad Rich Girls’. The track is the follow up to Triple j favourites ‘Go and Get Over’, ‘Better’ and ‘Love You Like’.

‘Sad Rich Girls’ is a cheeky diss track that pulls no punches. It’s a statement on that one girl we all know who always brings the drama. The kind of girl that instead of lifting her sisters up will drag them down to get to the top – forgetting that women are stronger when we stand together.

Sharing her feelings about ‘Sad Rich Girls’, SANNIA says “As such a strong feminist, I’m the most nervous I’ve ever been to release a song. I’m a firm believer that women have a duty to lift other women up, but I’ve had this recurring lived experience that there’s always one girl determined to win some sort of contest – pitting girls against each other – and I think it hinders the cause of women’s true equality. The sooner we stop bitching about what other women say and do and wear the better. Maybe then we can devote our energy towards something more important like fundamental rights for all or climate change.”

The song kicks off with samples of old paparazzi footage for that early-2000s TMZ energy, and the huge live drums – tracked on a vintage 60s Ludwig kit – sends the chorus into anthem territory. Bringing his textured and lush expansive sound to ‘Sad Rich Girls’ is Holy Holy’s Oscar Dawson who mixed and produced the track with SANNIA as co-producer, and mastering by Leon Zevros at Studios 301, Sydney.

I started by pulling some samples from early 2000s Paparazzi and fan-filmed celebrity interactions and stitched together the intro and ending of my homemade demo. I really wanted to capture that Paris Hilton-era cat-fight energy. I then took the demo to Holy’s Oscar Dawson where we tracked guitar, bass, vocals and live drums on a vintage 60s Ludwig Kit for that huge anthemic drum sound.

‘Sad Rich Girls’ is pure catfight energy, it’s Paris v. Lindsay, it’s Mariah v. Nicki, Kourtney v. Khloé, it’s every episode of The Bachelor – all while ignoring the real issues facing our world today.”SANNIA

SANNIA’s profile has grown significantly since winning the nationwide Triple j Unearthed competition to tour with The Rubens and supporting the likes of Tia Gostelow, Kira Puru, Eliott and Thando. She was also a  finalist in Nashville’s International songwriting competition out of 26,000 entries last year.

PRAISE FOR SANNIA

“Good things take time. Rightly so – it’s been worth the wait between releases for Melbourne’s SANNIA who has seemingly spent the last year and a bit adding a penthouse level to her already towering stature as a vocalist. This track looms above with a soaring presence and won’t let go of my attention. 4 stars”

Triple J Unearthed, Dave Ruby Howe

“Sannia has crafted this one to perfection. you create an emotional connection early then i was basically under your command for that swirling, building second half of the song. 4.5 stars”

Declan Byrne,Triple j

“okay go off, these vocals are insane! really love the storyline of the track and the build on this one is really something. 4 stars.”

Ash McGregor, Triple j

“Absolute gorgeous track from Sannia here. The vocals, the production. the lyrics. That beat switch up at the tail end of the track is other worldly.”

Dave Woodhead, Triple j

“What a commanding debut and guac damn, that note at 1:25. Can we just take a moment here!”

Bridget Hustwaite, Triple j

“Sannia’s finally found a track with the production to match the scale of her voice (well… as close as any can come). One for anyone in a relationship they’re just not sure about.”

Tommy Faith, Triple j Unearthed

“she shines a proper light on authentic and emotion-backed songwriting that feels like something real…”

Pilerats

“…retaining the emotion of her previous single while introducing bigger, bolder – and somewhat more upbeat – sonic territory.”

Music Feeds

“Sannia is on track to be one of the biggest names in Australian music”

Tyler Jenke, Tone Deaf

Love You Like’: “The result is a slow-burn bloom of pulsing synths, sharp pop sensibilities and strong, yet contemplative vocals that will disarm you right from the opening hook.”

Black Of Hearts

Love You Like’: “The song is a glorious, melancholic telling of the age old story of falling in love with the wrong person and having your heart broken in the process”

Announce First New Single In Five Years. Listen To ‘Beautiful James

Placebo are today announcing their first new single in five year,  Beautiful James.

Hear Beautiful James on DSPs here and view the visualizer here:

Over the course of more than 25 years, and over 13 million album sales, Placebo have shown themselves to be masters at cataloguing the human condition. The band’s unique way of examining both its flaws and beauty has for a long time made them a refuge for those who felt that the trappings of tradition, and the mainstream, were exactly that – a trap. Placebo continue to shine a light on the aspects of our society that are all too often viewed by some with scepticism at best, and hatred at worst.

It is with some poignancy then that new single Beautiful James arrives, finding itself born into a world that is as divided as it has ever been. Against the backdrop of splintering global relations, unchallenged online abuse and widespread fear among the narrow-minded of what they cannot understand, Beautiful James brings with it a message of defiance that seeks to normalize and celebrate non-heteronormative relationships in song.

Brian Molko comments further about the release of Beautiful James:

“If the song serves to irritate the squares and the uptight, so gleefully be it. But it remains imperative for me that each listener discovers their own personal story within it – I really don’t want to tell you how to feel.”

Created through the glaze of insomnia, the band turned their creative process on its head in order to bring Beautiful James to life. It meant approaching their work together in a new way, which began first with photographic imagery and a song title that evoked a certain feeling – long before any music was written. The resulting song is as powerful as it is tender – a resolutely defiant and ultimately necessary piece of art.

Beautiful James is not a polemic, or even a conversation. It is a statement – one that is as clear and bold as they have ever made.

Fast forward to 2021, the band have finished their 8th studio album and now have new music on the horizon.

Johnny Hunter soars high with vivid new single ‘Life’

Johnny Hunter soars high with vivid new single ‘Life’

Johnny Hunter

soars high with vivid new single

‘Life’

Today, the new single from Johnny Hunter arrives: striking, evocative and executed with a vibrancy that can instantly captivate. Simply titled ‘Life’, the latest track from the Sydney group freely dives into a multi-layered soundscape that reflects the intricacies and unpredictability of the subject itself.

Built on a foundation of strong guitars, rhythms and synth work that provide moments of euphoria amongst the brooding, ‘Life’ is a touchstone release for Johnny Hunter. Here, the band offers up a moment of catharsis – an avenue to find a renewed passion for life when we’re at our lowest.

As the band’s second release through Cooking Vinyl Australia, ‘Life’ is another stride forward for Johnny Hunter as they head into a new creative cycle of releases.

The release of ‘Life’ follows on from ‘The Floor’ – the darkly addictive single Johnny Hunter released in July. To view both songs side by side, the listener can hear the shift in mood and tone on ‘Life’. Both exist within the same meticulously crafted world, yet ‘Life’ is the companion release that chooses to look onward and upward to a brighter horizon.

As with ‘The Floor’, Johnny Hunter worked on this single with engineer Adam Greenspan (IDLES, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Yeah Yeah Yeahs), and Jack Moffitt (The Preatures) at Parliament Studios in Sydney.

Sonically, ‘Life’ moves between shades of IDLES, Fontaines D.C. and Parquet Courts. Vocalist Nick Hutt sings each lyric with an impassioned sense of yearning, the lyrics soaring against a beautiful synthesis of post-punk and airy synth-pop sounds.

“To find life is to find happiness, it is the ultimate end and purpose of our existence.

Life is not found in the darkness of the night, nor is it found in selfish ideals. It lies in the balance of the new day and how we approach our imperfections to bring balance to ourselves. The answer to The Floor, an ultimatum proposed to the self, to change or die, to sink or swim.

The sun is shining, it’s time for change, appreciate what you have, know who you are and lose yourself in Life. Inspired by the moral dilemma I faced pulling beers for alcoholics to sustain a week to week pay cheque that was almost always whimsically spent on alcohol for myself. These people were dying right in front of my eyes (some did die) and I was joining them.”
Johnny Hunter, Nick Hutt

Releasing their debut EP Early Trauma in 2020 to critical acclaim and praise nationwide, Johnny Hunter’s ambition and passion for music simply galvanised and their attention became more focused than ever on new material.

Their signing to Cooking Vinyl Australia in 2021 was an early sign that the band was well into the next stage of their evolution and now with two arresting and dynamic releases under their belt for the year, Johnny Hunter’s sonic identity continues to thrive.

SCORCHING NEW SINGLE

‘SLOWBURN’

Fresh off signing to international label Rude Records, Telltale have shared a scorching new single ‘Slowburn’. ‘Slowburn’ is a taste of what’s to come from Richmond-based rock band – fans can look forward to more new music coming later this year. The environmentally conscious track also arrives with an accompanying music video.

“I’m not claiming to be an expert on the climate crisis,” shares vocalist John Carteret. “The goal of a song like ‘Slowburn’ is to encourage people to ask questions. It doesn’t require an uncompromising shift to sustainable living, just an introspective look at ‘what can I do better?’”

He continues: “The biggest effort that young people can make right now is writing to their local politicians to oppose corporate CO2 emissions, and learning through research. Staying informed on the effects of globalization, polarization of the media, and just generally informing your political stance can make all the difference.”

Telltale is:
John Carteret (vocals)
Tim Fogg (bass)

KWAME RETURNS WITH ‘H I G H E R’ MARKING A NEW ERA IN HIS ARTISTIC JOURNEY

KWAME

RETURNS WITH ‘H I G H E R’ MARKING A NEW ERA
IN HIS ARTISTIC JOURNEY

Known to many as one of Australia’s breakout talents in recent years, Sydney based artist Kwame has continued to impress time and time again, with his thoughtful, forward thinking take on modern hip hop.

With a multitude of accolades under his belt, including a j award for Unearthed artist of 2018 and FBi Smac Award for Best Song, Kwame has built on an ever-growing wealth of industry fanfare with support from the likes of Zane Lowe, and A$AP Ferg, who first thrust the young musician into the literal spotlight.

Now Kwame returns with ‘H I G H E R’ – his first solo release of the year, whilst promising an abundance of new music to follow throughout the remainder of 2021. From the outset, it is clear that ‘H I G H E R’ stands apart from Kwame’s impressive repertoire, not just sonically, but as the title so aptly suggests, as a higher form and more considered take on his artistry to date.

The refined self-produced soundscape is a gleaming interpretation of neo-soul,  hip hop, and electronica. Whilst layered with psychedelic elements that are designed to imitate the roller coaster of emotions and euphoria when one embarks on a new intimate relationship. It is through this that Kwame, with openness, describes the addictive and drug-like feel of intimacy that he encounters, alongside stimulating elation, gratification and wholeness.

Speaking on the ideation of the record, Kwame further shares “‘H I G H E R’ is a song that speaks on the euphoric nature of intimacy one in embarks on with their significant other, this was actually one of the first songs where after producing the instrumental, I just grabbed the mic and punched in the verses and chorus after every 8 bars or so. This was new and fun to me as I’m more used to sitting down and taking the time to write, whereas, this process here allowed me to just say whatever was on my mind at the time.”

Accompanying the release is a bold new music video featuring a stunningly suited up and inebriated Kwame. The clip opens with Kwame stumbling through the front door, putting on some beats, and getting in the zone as he sings about the excitement of a new love. The energy and euphoric dancing perfectly encapsulate the feeling following the perfect date that leaves you totally in awe of what might come.

Directed by Kwame and Zain Ayub, the duo have created a three-part series in which a wider story is told over a single night out, sharing “the concept of the video draws inspiration from the iconic dance scene in Risky Business featuring Tom Cruise. The film encapsulates my evolution as an artist by showcasing the growth and maturity in both the sonic qualities of my music as well as the visual aesthetic. We felt as though the choice of considered steady cam and widescreen would help captivate the audience, bringing them into the universe we created.”

The Kiwi born, Ghanian artist exploded onto the scene with an energy like no other, and has gone on to amass an incredible 23 million+ streams across his catalogue to date. Quickly earning the praise of triple j /  Unearthed, after uploading the equally powerful and anthemic single ‘WOW’, the independently released single went on to garner over 6 million streams alone, whilst more recently being synced for a global Apple commercial.

Following it up with the acclaimed 2018 EP Endless Conversations., and 2020’s Please, Get Home SafeKwame’s name has become a staple with tastemaker support across Rolling Stone Australia, Red Bull, Acclaim, Music Feeds, NME, Junkee, Sniffers, Life Without Andy, Pilerats, Stoney Roads, and Purple Sneakers, amongst many others.

Marking a period of new beginnings, and a plethora of new music to follow, Kwame has set the tone for what is to be a significant year ahead.

Kwame’s new single ‘H I G H E R’ is out now on all streaming platforms.

DELAIRE THE LIAR

REVEAL NEW SINGLE ‘FURNACE’ AND ACCOMPANYING MUSIC VIDEO

London based alternative band DELAIRE THE LIAR have released new single and video ‘FURNACE’ via their new home at RUDE RECORDS.

The band spoke on the new song ‘FURNACE’:

“’FURNACE‘ is a tragedy. Some ditches are too deep to dig out of, some punishment too painful to forget. It infuriates, to see the ones you care about refuse the kindness and attention they afford to others. Harder still when they turn that mirror back on you. That lack of compassion for your own body can turn to neglect and that negligence can bury you.”

Music, at its best, opens the door to an honesty that borders on disconcerting. For London four-piece Delaire The Liar, expressing a central truth is at the very core of all they create.

Utilising a weaponised punk rock attitude that feeds into a visceral delivery and live performance, married with a fragility and earnestness that extends a welcoming hand to the listener, Delaire The Liar are set to explore the nuances of human emotion and response.

Unafraid to be vulnerable, unafraid to be hysterical and open to all.

FANGZ

REVEAL SEARING SKATE-PUNK ANTHEM

I DON’T LIKE ME

After releasing their compelling track ‘Prove Me Wrong’, Sydney-based punk quartet FANGZ have today returned with their emotively-charged new single ‘I Don’t Like Me’ – produced by Stevie Knight (Yours TrulyStand AtlanticThe Dead Love), and mixed by James Paul Wisner (UnderoathParamoreAS IT IS).

‘I Don’t Like Me’ is a tip of the hat to 90’s skate punk-rock. Opening with an arpeggiated guitar riff and a hook-laden melody, the track swiftly picks up pace as monstrous drums and thudding bass combine. The arrangement deftly modulates back and forth, before building into a roaring crescendo at the bridge, closing out with its infectious chorus.

Front man Joshua Cottreau talks about the meaning behind ‘I Don’t Like Me’:

“‘I Don’t Like Me’ is about the version of ourselves we publicly present in order to hide our true experience and what we’re really going through. It touches on our personal issues as well as the passing of close friends that lost their own battles with depression. This song is for anyone that is not ok and feels isolated. Just know you are not alone and you are loved.”

Although battling against an unforgiving global pandemic, FANGZ have maintained their resilience and continued on throughout 2021 with great strides. They sold out all shows on their ‘Self Medicate’ tour, making appearances across NSW, ACT, VIC and QLD. In the live arena, the band have also supported the likes of Comeback Kid (CAN), Cancer Bats (CAN), GyroscopeTotally Unicorn and Bare Bones.

ELI GREENEYES SHARES NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO ‘SHE DON’T CARE’

ELI GREENEYES

ELI GREENEYES

SHARES NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO

‘SHE DON’T CARE’

Eli Greeneyes is exactly the kind of artist we need in 2021 – eccentric, exciting, guitar-driven pop reminiscent of classics Oasis and Something For Kate but also modern pop rulers Yungblud and even Billie Eilish – he has announced his electric new single and video She Don’t Care.

The WA-based musician will be performing a one off, hometown headline show at Indian Ocean Hotel on September 2. And off the back of his collaboration with Perth hip hop royalty DRAPHT on his new album Shadows and Shinings (also released today), Eli Greeneyes will be joining DRAPHT on the road for his extensive 13 WA-date album tour in September, October and November this year.

She Don’t Care features so much of what we already know we love about Eli Greeneyes, but with plenty of innovation to spark a thrill upon every new listen.  It’s guitar-driven, powerful pop, with a carefully written topline, impassioned lyrics, and an absolutely killer mix.  It’s like a track from the early 2000s, written for a 2021 audience.

Speaking on the inspiration behind She Don’t Care, Eli Greeneyes says, She Don’t Care is about someone from my past who came along at a time when I was having a lot of mental health issues.  Their intentions were extremely different to mine and I was listening to them too much instead of trusting my own intentions and instincts!  I lost myself.  When I wrote it I thought it was their fault, but now I realise that I also played a part in letting it take that direction.  I had to write this song to gain back my true ‘not taking shit’ self.”

The video for She Don’t Care is overflowing with attitude, and it’s the perfect visual representation of the frustration and angst behind the song itself.  Eli Greeneyes sings directly to the camera, walking towards us while a woman points and yells right up in his face.  The confrontation is real, but the resolve that Greeneyes has developed through the catharsis of this song is real too.

Speaking simply, he reflects on the idea behind the video clip, and the team who made it happen, “The concept was created by my friends James Mooney, Ben Matei and I.  We wanted it to be predominantly a performance based video with an underlying simple narrative of self destruction and attracting the wrong people in your life… Everyone involved with the clip is creative in their own light with something to say and achieve.  They are all my best friends who I want to take on this journey.”

Produced alongside Mark McEwan (Karnivool, Drapht), She Don’t Care is a brilliant example of an artist who is totally in control of the process, and completely enamoured by the idea of creating new songs and new sounds.  Not only is Eli Greeneyes producing killer tracks for himself, but he’s also collaborating with other artists, including DRAPHT, and sharing his high production skills with his wider community.

Speaking of community, Eli Greeneyes is pumped to get back on the stage and perform for his fans, as he reflects, “My shows are an opportunity to meet and understand my fans with what they connect with the most about my music.  What am I saying that makes them feel heard and understood?  That all comes down to singing the lyrics for me.  Expressing them in that up close and personal way so the story hits straight to the heart.”

She Don’t Care is out now.

Tickets to the Indian Ocean Hotel show are on sale now.
