Mark September 9 on your calendar as the release date for Patient Number 9, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy®-winning singer and songwriter Ozzy Osbourne’s new album and the first since his critically acclaimed, worldwide, chart-topping 2020 Ordinary Man release.
The album’s self-titled first single has been released. Listen to Patient Number 9 here.
“Having worked with Ozzy in the past, I jumped at another opportunity to do so again…especially on the music side this time,” Todd McFarlane says. “In the harsh business called the music industry, any creative person who’s sustained a multi-decades career has shown the skill, talent and tenacity that will always garner my admiration. Ozzy has shown many of us creative folks that it’s indeed possible to make a living doing what you love for nearly an entire lifetime. Go, Ozzy!”
Produced by Andrew Watt (who handled the same duties on Ordinary Man and set for release on Epic/Sony Music Australia, the new album marks Osbourne’s 13th solo studio album. It’s heavy, it’s hard-hitting, it’s historic–it’s everything you’d want from an Ozzy Osbourne record and maybe more.
Patient Number 9 was written by Ozzy, Watt, Robert Trujillo, Chad Smith and Ali Tamposi and features a riveting solo from legendary guitarist Jeff Beck (one of the notable guest stars on the album, additional details below). The video marks the first collaboration from the project with Emmy-and Grammy-winning director/producer Todd McFarlane. It is highlighted by McFarlane’s signature illustrations interspersed with live Ozzy vignettes in the role of Patient Number 9, which the revolutionary creative force in the world of comics and toys also filmed. In addition, this is the first-ever video to incorporate Ozzy’s artwork: his hand-drawn demons were animated and can be seen during the Jeff Beck solo in the song.
Working with producer Watt for the second time, Ozzy welcomed a dynamic A-list supporting cast. The record boasts guitarists Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, and longstanding righthand man and six-string beast Zakk Wylde who plays on the majority of the tracks. For the bulk of the album, Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers held down drums, while the late Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters made an appearance. Old friend and one-time Ozzy band member Robert Trujillo ofMetallica plays bass on most of the album’s tracks, with Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses and Chris Chaney of Jane’s Addiction supplying bass on a few songs. For the first time ever, Black Sabbath co-founder, guitarist, and riff-lord Tony Iommi appears on an Ozzy solo album.
Q: This is your first album to be released after the pandemic. What was going through your mind during the early days of the pandemic and are any of those feelings reflected in these songs?
Ozzy: “Well, I was vaccinated and boosted and I still caught Covid in the end. My last album (Ordinary Man) was released just a few weeks before the pandemic started, and I was just about getting ready to go into the studio to work on this new one when the world shut down. It’s no secret that the last four years have been very difficult for me but making this album took my mind off of my problems.”
Q: The album features some players with whom have history. What was it like to be reunited with Tony Iommi musically?
Ozzy: “It was really great working with Tony. He’s the riff master. No one can touch him in that respect. I only wish we had these songs for Black Sabbath’s 13 album.” Q: Zakk contributes a lot on this album–how was the decision made to have him play since he didn’t play on the last album?
Ozzy: “Zakk is part of my family and always will be. The album needed that weight that his playing provides. He just came in and really sorted things out.”
Q: Tell us about the first single, Patient Number 9, which features Jeff Beck. What do you feel he has contributed to the song?
Ozzy: “The song is about a mental institution. Having someone like Jeff Beck play on my album is just incredible, a total honor. There’s no other guitar player that plays like him and his solo on Patient Number 9 is just jaw-dropping.”

About Ozzy Osbourne: He’s sold over 100 million records, is one of a handful of artists who has had top ten albums in last six decades, received induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame® as a co-founder of Black Sabbath, won three GRAMMY® Awards, earned the Ivor Novello Award for Lifetime Achievement from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors, set a Guinness World Record, and claimed real estate on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Birmingham Walk of Stars. He’s played for royalty (even the Queen of England) and dignitaries around the world, interacted with presidents and performed to millions of devoted fans on five continents. Earlier this year, Ozzy’s CrytoBatz NFT launched as one the biggest Celebrity NFT project ever created, it’s currently ranked in the top 100 biggest NFT projects ever and is valued at over $40 Million. That’s the stuff you already know (we hope), but what really matters is Ozzy Osbourne is the real “Iron Man” and is still kicking ass and “going fucking crazy!” to this day.

Iconic Australian performer and award-winning songwriter Darren Hayes unveils the powerful new video to accompany his current single ‘Poison Blood’. The single is easily Darren’s most personal and revealing effort to date – the songwriter embracing new levels of introspection and self-understanding than ever before.
To accurately encompass the energy and emotional impact of the song itself, Darren collaborated with filmmaker/photographer and friend Alex Hyner to bring its central concept of nostalgia and intimacy to life on screen.
Though ‘Poison Blood’ is a song that deals with depression and suicide, the music video does not neglect to acknowledge the new chapter of music Darren has been exploring in recent years. The final film output, beautifully striking and aesthetically enticing, matches the energy Darren has threaded throughout his new material, evidenced across his string of strong singles released so far this year.
“My song ‘Poison Blood’, deals with depression, which is such a delicate subject in and of itself, so when it came time to make a visual component, I knew I wanted to make a music video that was extremely intimate but was also true to the visual inspirations and musical references that have shaped this new era of music. Everything has been tinged by an 80’s wistfulness and had a magical quality to it.” Darren Hayes
The blend of melancholic and nostalgic tones is a deliberate one with the ‘Poison Blood’ clip; memories of some of life’s most difficult experiences, being brought back to the surface – desperately needing to find a sense of reconciliation and healing.
Early ideas of the music video were sparked from conversations between Darren and Alex, pulling inspiration from visuals by artists including Elton John (‘Sacrifice’) and Prince (‘When Doves Cry’). To keep the ‘80s influences anchored in this project, only film techniques used in 1985 were employed in the making of the ‘Poison Blood’ video: cameras were hand-held or operated by a dolly, with real sets and any special effects executed practically in front of the camera.
Says Darren of the experience, making the ‘Poison Blood’ video captured him in quite the raw and vulnerable state; in that, there is a unique beauty that can be related to the audience and in that, the fans can connect on a deeper level.
“Ultimately the point of the song is that in spite of my challenges with mental health, every day is a day that I choose to stay alive – and in our video – through the sheer force of love, I will myself back into that bathroom and back to life – and we end where we begin.
There were two ‘cry’ performances shot for the video – I believe one take is in the video where a single tear runs down my cheek. We simply put on a sad song, for me that song is ‘Poison and Wine’ by The Civil Wars. Within the first few bars I burst into tears and we kept rolling. I love that we captured me so raw, so unguarded and so real. It’s a process that keeps unfolding and I’m enjoying it so much about making music again after being away for so long.” Darren Hayes
2022 has been a triumphant year for Darren Hayes. Releasing his first new music in 10 years from the anthemic ‘Let’s Try Being In Love’ to the pulsating dance floor vibe of ‘Do You Remember?’. Darren reminded us of his ability to write, produce and arrange songs that are an addictive listen.
Darren headlined the 2022 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras celebration and will return to Australian stages for the first time in over a decade in January/February 2023 with his
‘Do You Remember?’ Tour – 25 Years Of Savage Garden, Solo Hits And More.
Madonna has released FINALLY ENOUGH LOVE, the 16-track edition of her career-spanning compilation album available now on all streaming services. Listen here.
The release follows the exclusive performance revue in NYC last week at Terminal 5 which was created by Madonna to celebrate and uplift the LGBTQ+ community during Pride month. The night included a special performance from Madonna herself, where she joined Saucy Santana for the new remix “Material Gwerll,” and Tokischa for “Hung up on Tokischa.”
FINALLY ENOUGH LOVE arrives ahead of the 50-track version FINALLY ENOUGH LOVE: 50 NUMBER ONES,which arrives on August 19, 2022.The two collections, curated by Madonna, are in celebration of her historic milestone as the first and only recording artist to have 50 #1 hits on any single Billboard chart when she topped the Dance Club Songs chart for the 50th time.
These new collections mark the first album release to be part of the newly announced partnership between Madonna and Warner Music Group, which will feature an extensive series across her groundbreaking career.
50 NUMBER ONES spans her entire dance club chart reign with dozens of remixes by the world’s top producers. In addition to fan favorites, the collection also includes a selection of rare remix recordings, with more than 20 being officially released for the first time or making their commercial/digital debut. The collection will be available digitally on August 19, along with a 3-CD version. A limited-edition, 6-LP version on red and black vinyl will also be available and has already sold out in pre-orders.
The 16-track edition, FINALLY ENOUGH LOVE, will be available in physical format on August 19.
Expect more surprises to be revealed later this year around the celebration of Madonna’s 40 years in music.
Boasting more than 220 minutes of remixes, FINALLY ENOUGH LOVE: 50 NUMBER ONES flows in mostly chronological order, showcasing the many musical reinventions that made Madonna an international icon, from 1983’s “Holiday” to 2019’s “I Don’t Search I Find,” with remixes by some of the biggest and most influential DJs of all time including Shep Pettibone, William Orbit, Honey Dijon, and Avicii.
On several songs, Madonna is joined by other incredible artists, including Britney Spears (“Me Against The Music”); Justin Timberlake and Timbaland (“4 Minutes”); and Nicki Minaj (“Bitch I’m Madonna.”) Each remix was newly remastered for the collection by Mike Dean, who produced Madonna’s two most-recent studio albums, Rebel Heart (2015) and Madame X (2019).
Both of these new collections also highlight You Can Dance, Madonna’s first-ever remix collection. Celebrating 35 years this year, You Can Dance has sold more than five million copies worldwide and is still the second best-selling remix album of all time. The collection also pays homage to “Everybody,” Madonna’s first single, celebrating its 40th Anniversary on October 6. Madonna redesigned the album’s chronology by picking three edits from You Can Dance, including “Into The Groove”, “Everybody” and “Physical Attraction,” which reflects the underground club vibes that inspired her first recordings as a Sire artist.
Along with those rarities, these albums also introduce versions that are seeing their first-ever official release, including the “Alternate Single Remix” of “Keep It Together,” the “Offer Nissim Promo Mix” of “Living For Love,” and more.

Nessa Barrett gives fans another piece of her heart on the moving new single “die first”. Listen HERE via Warner Records. Produced by and co-written with frequent collaborator Evan Blair, the deeply personal anthem is about the fleeting nature of love. The track is accompanied by a video that approaches mortality through a whimsical, childlike lens. Watch it HERE.
“die first” finds Barrett in a reflective mood. The way she sees it, relationships normally end one of two ways. “Someone dies or someone gets hurt.”
“Life is so short,” Barrett says of her new single. While “die first” was initially focused on the idea of loss, her focus soon shifted. “It quickly turned into a love song to the most important people in my life. I don’t ever want to think about not having them by my side. I think that’s one of the most beautiful things about this song; everyone has someone, or something even, that they can’t imagine life without.”
Nessa Barrett above
“This song means more to me than anyone could comprehend. One of the first people I shared it with was my best friend Cooper Noriega and he said it was his favourite song from my album. I’m so happy I got to tell him that it was for him and my mom before he passed. This is being released in honour of him. I want people to know that they don’t have to struggle alone and encourage anyone to join Cooper’s discord community Coop’s Advice, which is a safe place for all of us.”
It’s the type of raw emotion that Barrett’s fans have come to expect. “die first” arrives after February’s release “dying on the inside”, which purposefully dropped during National Eating Disorders Awareness Week in the US. In 2021, she introduced herself with pop-punk earworm and gold-certified“la di die” featuring jxdn and Travis Barker on the drums. The newcomer then cracked the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time with the revenge anthem“i hope ur miserable until ur dead”, the smash hit single off her September 2021 EP, pretty poison.
The larger Barrett’s following gets, the more mindful she is to use it to shine a light on big issues. I is the latest example of how she has come to expertly turn inner turmoil into songs that help herself, and her fans, start to heal.
Aussie metalcore powerhouse Alpha Wolf have revealed the second track from “The Lost & The Longing,” their upcoming split EP with Holding Absence. The new single, titled “Hotel Underground,” is a sub-3 minute flurry of despondent destruction that takes aim at wilful bystanders.
Vocalist Lochie Keogh comments “Whenever some bomb drops there’s always those motherfuckers on the side that narrowly avoid the fallout, taking their survival as a flimsy proof of innocence, sitting with their hands over ears crying ‘la la la la.’ Roaches, rats, locusts, pests, rodents, open your ears and listen to me, your time is coming and I’m bringing it to you.”
The Lost and the Longing split EP due out on Monday 15 August on Greyscale Records / Sharptone Records combines four magnetic tracks, two tracks per band, of dynamic and diverse heavy bliss that’ll certainly leave you yearning for more.
While the road has been far from easy for Alpha Wolf and they refuse to let anything stand in their way. Throughout the chaotic and turbulent times they find themselves, the band released their sophomore album ‘a quiet place to die’ to critical acclaim including a #6 spot on the ARIA charts and a nomination for Best Heavy Album at the ARIA awards. Selling out multiple sold out runs around Australia and two European runs under their belt. They completed a a huge 5 week tour in the USA supporting Polaris through out March and April before hitting all major capitol cities in Australia for their Metalcore Snitches tour alongside Fit For A King (USA), Great American Ghost (USA) and Paledusk (JPN).
Alpha Wolf know how far they have come, but it’s what lays ahead of them that’s keeping the band hungry.

Kings of Sydney’s underground Johnny Hunter have today released their triumphant debut album Want via Cooking Vinyl Australia. Led by an emphatic music video for the title-track, Want comes ahead of the band embarking on a 9-date national album tour throughout July.
Rousing blood-pumper ‘Want‘ is a thunderous opening to the album, walloping with insurmountable force. From the outset, the title-track introduces Johnny Hunter as defiant and determined; frontman Nick Hutt shares “it’s a spearheaded promise to ourselves to be the best version we can be. With this song, our self-assured affirmation acts as a hardened fist to the whirlwind of challenges that life throws at us. ‘Want’ is Johnny Hunter incarnate.”
Despite the spirited nature of Johnny Hunter and their confident charisma, it’s the moments of furious honesty and deep catharsis where the strength of Want shines most brightly. Songs like ‘Cry Like A Man’ and ‘Clover’ hear Hutt bare his soul, with each soaring vocal adding another dimension to this six-piece who are destroying the boundaries of man-hood with their powerful vulnerability and proud embrace of self.
Hutt notes “As we were finishing the record, we had just gotten out of lockdown and were certain that we were staring down the barrel of another couple of months in isolation… so there’s an element of structured desperation across the ten tracks.” This raw humanity underscores the entire album; Johnny Hunter are self-aware enough to acknowledge that we are all human and need to embrace our whole selves on the journey to self-actualisation. ‘The Floor’ is an acceptance of our lowest points, while ‘Fracture’ finds the beauty in sadness. “No matter how different we may seem…unbeknownst to what it is we want… we have all been naive, we have all strived to find our version of life, we all fear change, fear sadness, all amidst our own collective fading eternity.” However they are equally fuelled by a grit and hunger that drives them to take on the world, its changes and its conflicts head on – expressed with absolute inviniciblity and naivety on ‘Endless Days’.
On bringing their cinematic soundscapes to life, Hutt adds “Being able to involve our producerJack Moffitt (The Preatures) into the creative process ensured we could squeeze the best out of every song. Our relationship really drove the direction of the final production and helped to finesse the lyrics. We also teamed up with critically acclaimed producer Adam Greenspan(IDLES, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) to mix the album, and working with him opened our production so much more than we ever imagined.”
Since emerging from the shadows of Sydney’s grim nightlife in 2019, Johnny Hunter have quickly risen to cult favourites, selling out rooms across Australia’s East Coast and winning audiences over supporting the likes of Jack White and The Saboteurs, City Calm Down and Polish Club to name a few. Their debut EP Early Trauma (2020) garnered critical praise and airplay around the country, citing influences and drawing comparisons to The Smiths, Joy Division and The Cure. Though their sound is rooted in nostalgia, their impassioned songwriting and explosive live shows are undeniably made for now.

The song arrives alongside an official video, which was directed by Drew Kirsch. The playful visual humorously sees Puth and Jung Kook through a therapeutic fantasy to escape their own minds. Watch the video HERE.
“Left and Right” serves at the third single from Puth’s forthcoming deeply personal third studio album, CHARLIE, due later this year. After months of fan anticipation, he released his critically acclaimed first single from the album, the ARIA Gold-certified “Light Switch”, in January 2022 which hit No. 1 on the Apple iTunes Pop Chart and has garnered more than 401 million streams globally and over 83 million views on YouTube. He recently appeared and performed the track on JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE and ELLEN, as well as the iHeart Awards, where he did a special dueling piano performance with EGOT John Legend. Puth also performed the track in addition to his other fan-favourite hits at this year’siHeart Radio KIIS-FM Wango Tango, receiving the biggest response from the crowd of the evening. Following it up with an emotional and moving song “That’s Hilarious”, he has amassed over 99 million streams on Spotify.
At only 30 years old, Charlie Puth has proven to be one of industry’s most consistent hitmakers and sought-after collaborators. Puth has amassed six ARIA multi-platinum singles, seven ARIA Top 20 singles, four GRAMMY nominations, three Billboard Music Awards, a Critic’s Choice Award, and a Golden Globe nomination. His 2018 GRAMMY-nominated LP, Voicenotes, was RIAA Certified Gold only four days after its release and has logged over 5.6 billion streams worldwide. Puth’s 2020 collaboration with Gabby Barrett on their “I Hope” Remix earned him his fourth top 10 track on the Billboard Hot 100, hit number one on the Billboard “Adult Pop Songs” chart, and won a 2021 Billboard Music Award for “Top Collaboration.” Puth also co-wrote and produced The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber’s record-breaking ARIA #1 single, “Stay”, which quickly become one of the biggest songs of 2021 and holds the title for the longest-reigning No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 chart and the first to lead it for double-digits – spending a total of eleven weeks at the top of the chart.
SZNZ: Summer, the second part in Weezer’s four-EP song cycle, is out now. It continues the narrative started on predecessor SZNZ: Spring (stream HERE) bringing Pagan myths, Shakespeare, Catholic rituals, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, and more to life. It’s an angrier, indignant scorcher of an EP, taking the place of SZNZ: Spring’s light-hearted tone. SZNZ: Summer is the classic Weezer 90’s Alt rock sound filtered through 21st century production, making every note – and every emotion – bigger and bolder. Like on Spring, lyrics juxtapose ancient and modern elements right next to each other in a seamless way that only frontman Rivers Cuomo can make feel relatable and relevant. “Lawn Chair” calls on archangels to torture humans, followed by “Records”, which may be the only song you’ll hear in 2022 that references pop stars in its chorus.
The songs detail irreverent proclamations (“What if I was to say ‘hell no, i’m not your soldier boy”), standing up for yourself, revenge fantasies (“Feed ‘em to the lions/Taste your own medicine”), and more. The EP as a whole pulls together some of the most notable melodic threads from the band’s acclaimed output over the last eight years: the incredible sprawl of “Thank You and Good Night” recalls parts of Everything Will Be Alright In The End’s Futurescope Trilogy; “What’s The Good Of Being Good” has a classic vocal line that would’ve been right at home on Weezer (The White Album). Indeed, SZNZ is now two EP’s in, and is shaping up to be one of Weezer’s most exciting projects to date.
In celebration of Weezer’s innovative new SZNZ, the band is thrilled to announce a short residency on Broadway in New York City. The run, which will happen September 13 through September 18, will be unlike any shows Weezer have played before. Each night’s show will not only correspond with a different season’s EP, but will see the band reaching deep into their catalog to play a unique set of Weezer classics, many of which have not been played in years. A fifth night of shows will be a mix of all the songs from SZNZ and Weezer fan favourites from the previous four nights.
Weezer is Brian Bell (backing vocals, guitar), Rivers Cuomo (vocals, guitar, piano), Scott Shriner (backing vocals, bass), and Pat Wilson (drums).
Personal stories, paired with enthralling storytelling, has always inspired Matthew Gilbert’s songwriting. ‘Getting Over All Of It’ marks the forthcoming sophomore release for Gilbert, filling ten glorious tracks with his signature, ethereal charm and ‘straight-from-the-heart’ compositions. Having successfully funded a Kickstarter campaign for the album’s recording & release, Matthew Gilbert’s audience now waits with anticipation to begin to hear the creations they’ve supported over the past year. With the album and his core group of fans playing such a large support in his life, Gilbert is now so eager to give back to his fanbase, providing a set of sounds, melodies & stories for them to carry with them throughout their own journeys.
With ample amounts of time on his hands, alongside an abundance of creative energy, Matthew Gilbert penned and produced ‘Getting Over All Of It’ during the hard, stage four lockdown that was blanketed across Melbourne in 2021. Hundreds of separate audio tracks were utilized in the creation of its final form, with these sourced to include choral & orchestral arrangements from Germany, United Kingdom, Japan and the United States. Mixed by Jacob Sells (Woodlock, LANKS) and mastered by Adam Dempsey (Courtney Barnett, Paul Kelly), the final album was lovingly pieced together to create a work even greater than the sum of its parts.
“I was planning to release these songs as singles, but when listening through I was struck at how they all flowed from similar events and themes. Not only that, but I felt a tug on my heart, there was a deep sense of ‘letting go’ I needed from this music being released In an Album format. Hence, ‘Getting Over All Of It’” Matthew Gilbert
“The process of creating this music happened over the last 2 years. In and out of lockdowns the album was recorded mostly in homes around the world. From Australia to the United Kingdom, Germany, America and Japan ‘Getting Over All Of It’ features over 23 amazing humans in its creation. All of it gorgeously arranged by myself.”Matthew Gilbert
‘Getting Over All Of It’ is out now
Following on from his debut LP ‘This Heart’, performed alongside an 18-piece ensemble and elevating the release event to a truly cinematic experience, Matthew Gilbert has chipped away to create an album that is next step in the vivid & detailed sonic journey within his songwriting. A collection of music stories from the past 5 years of his life, there is an abundance of highs and the deepest of lows across the release. Lead single ‘Out Of The Contempt’ epitomizes this, channeling honesty, depression & heartbreak to unveil the inner-workings of his psyche, when moving past a deeply hurtful period in his life.
Out Of The Contempt is the crowning jewel of my upcoming album ‘Getting Over All Of It’. It completes the story of moving through the last 5 years of my life. Filled with depression, relationships, church hurt and restoring faith. Out Of The Contempt sings about moving on from all the hurt, regardless of getting closure, for the sake of healing. Out Of The Contempt is an Alternative Cinematic Soundscape full of orchestral elements and authentic ambient tones.” Matthew Gilbert
“We all go through tough times, but rarely do we take the necessary space to reflect. This was me. Failing to invest in my own health I was neglecting something deep within my soul. Distant sounds, melodies and stories around me that were yearning to be told.‘Getting Over All Of It’ is a collection of musical stories from the last 5 years of my life. These have been some of the most soaring mountain top highs and the deepest lurching lows.” Matthew Gilbert.
Matthew Gilbert is emerging gradually as one of Australia’s premiere indie-folk performers. With an abundance of relatable and moving stories up his sleeve, Gilbert capivates listeners with his honest melodies, lush harmonies and mysterious lyrics – hitting hard but always pulling back for a warm embrace when complete. His heartful songwriting is the tonic for a cold night, difficult week, heartbreak, lost love or any setback faced in the to & fro’s of day-to-day life.

PRAISE FOR MATTHEW GILBERT & ‘GETTING OVER ALL OF IT’
“The end result speaks for itself; a ten strong collection packed with Gilbert’s signature charm, lush harmonies, and mysterious lyrics. Set for release tomorrow, stand-outs include the ethereal “Into The Moon”, and the wonderful rise and fall of duet “Burning From The Inside”. Recent single “Out Of The Contempt” also shines, with Gilbert describing it as the “crowning jewel” of the album.”
“… a penchant for heart-on-the-sleeve lyricism.”
“Into The Moon Definitely stands out to me – really well delivered, subtle, and draws you right in. One for the night walkers!”
Steph Hughes, triple j Unearthed
“The Process is a very pretty track. The voice is super gentle on the ears – matched by the pleasant folk backing.”
Dave Ruby Howe, triple j Unearthed
“Matthew Gilbert has really impressed me with “Out of the Contempt,” an epic slice of indie-folk. It’s got a soaring score, created by overlaying more than a hundred audio tracks sourced from around the world. Its introspective lyrics anchor this beautiful song”
A gentle beat, a psychedelically blazing organ, subdued guitar arpeggios, to which an echoing female voice whispers. The first sounds of “Beach Baby, Baby”, the new EP by Nick & June, cause several associative bells to ring at once: Dream Pop! LoFi! Sixties! And those who have known the duo from Nuremberg for a while may be momentarily puzzled: Where’s the indie-folk? Well, after a creative break (and more than two pandemic years) it’s okay to start a new chapter, right?
With the first single ‘Anything But Time’, Nick & June float in a glittering fog of trilling synthesizers, gentle beat and drum pulses and vibrating organ sounds. Embedded in dark reverb guitars, the bitter-sweet paired voices of Suzie-Lou Kraft and Nick Wolf lead the way through euphorically orchestrated restraint and meditative ramifications of thought. Where parallels were once drawn to artists like Bon Iver, Damien Rice, and Angus & Julia Stone, now also Beach House, Mazzy Star, and Lana Del Rey, peer through the reverb-veil.

“The song was written really fast, very stream-of-consciousness, really really fast. It’s a brief song, with simple sounds, in fact just an old Casio keyboard and a drum machine, with lots of ideas in it. We don’t do too much talking about the lyrics so people can interpret them in their own way. Besides, sometimes even we don’t know one hundred percent what they mean.“ NICK & JUNE
The band shot the accompanying video in an old hotel in Berlin, a late 19th-century tenement house that was once home to silent movie star Asta Nielsen.
“We have watched many classics of film history and all time favorites in Pandemic – maybe that’s why the overall concept of the EP has a cinematic touch. With these impressions absorbed, we quickly had a firm idea of what the video should look like. The Hotel Funk in Berlin, as an already stunning location, was adapted even more to our wishes by Lillie Ceben, who was responsible for the set design, and Jeanette Friedrich then captured them and shortened them to two minutes thirty – which was really hard with such beautiful material. I believe that with Maja Bons as the actress, we have found the one person who can make this video fun from head to toe.“ NICK AND JUNE
Change is a constant in Nick & June’s career. What began in 2011 as Nick Wolf’s solo project, evolved into a variable work of art and indie project during recent years. While both the first EP and full-length debut “Flavor & Sin” (2013) were still deeply rooted in acoustic singer-songwriterism, Nick & June pushed the doors wide open with their concept-release ”My November My” (2017): It was still folk(pop), but more cinematic and layered, with choirs, brass and no inhibitions about freestyling at times – and with singles like “Home Is Where the Heart Hurts, Pt. 1” and “London City, Boy, It’s Killing Me” that morphed into minor indie hits: over 10 million streams, air time on the radio, prime-time TV and even the big screen, in the acclaimed coming-of-age film “About a Girl.”

Ahead of a coveted slot at this year’s Glastonbury, The Snuts have announced their highly-anticipated new album Burn The Empire, out October 7th on Parlophone Records. The album follows their acclaimed, UK number 1-selling debut album, W.Land today sees the fourth taste of the record with new single “The Rodeo”.
Premiered as Clara Amfo’s ‘Hottest Record In The World’, new single “The Rodeo” is a care-free, four to the floor, singalong indie anthem, set to ignite live crowds across the world. “‘The Rodeo’ is about knowing that your life is more often than not completely out of your control. It is about finding merit in the madness and celebrating the journey and not just the destination. It is the musical equivalent of cowboys vs. aliens,” Jack said of the track. ”We want it to encourage the feeling of absolute pure, inclusive escapism through guitar music.”

One of the most exciting acts in the UK right now, The Snuts deliver 11 slices of sonic brilliance on Burn The Empire. Produced by longtime collaborators Detonate and Clarence Coffee Jr the album continues the band’s evolution both sonically and lyrically. A voice for the next generation lead singer Jack Cochrane attacks subjects affecting the youth of today. Opening with the album’s title track, a no holds barred protest against the corrupt corporations and politicians, the album delves into the negative effects of social media on “Zuckerpunch” and “13” tackles the lack of mental health services and the lethal effects of poverty across Britain and its impact on society.
“The universe delivered us time to create a record where we finally felt we could address some of the topics, be it societal or spiritual, that we have been dying to scream out,” lead singer Jack Cochrane said of the album. “There are songs about the highs & lows, stuff we really want to talk about and things we cannot help but feel, but have just never made the space to.”
Infectious, euphoric, heartfelt and packed to the brim with hooks, Burn The Empire is the work of a band living in the moment, with an eye to the future. Armed with a chart-topping album and an arsenal of adoring fans up and down the UK, these four lads from Whitburn, West Lothian, are well on their way to being one of the most vital bands of recent years.
Ali Campbell, the original founder of the iconic Grammy-award winning, UK reggae group, UB40, has confirmed the band will return to Australia for their first national tour in four years presented by The Hour Group and Vandemonian Touring.
The band’s legendary songwriter and esteemed vocalist will be joined by his amazing nine-piece band for the Australian tour. Tickets are on sale from 9am Wednesday 22 June 2022 at www.thehourgroup.com.au
Formed in 1979, UB40 helped define reggae music for a generation. The ground-breaking reggae troupe topped the UK singles chart on three occasions, earned multiple Grammy nominations and sold over 70 million records as they took their smooth yet rootsy musical blend to all corners of the globe.
Kicking off on 28 September, Ali Campbell will bring his energetic stage show that he is synonymous for to Hobart, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Bribie Island in Queensland. They will also headline the sold-out music festival, Promiseland on 2nd October in the Gold Coast.
The reggae pioneers will perform classic hits that catapulted them to the forefront of the universal landscape including “Red, Red Wine,” “Kingston Town,” “One in Ten,” “Food For Thought” and more.
The band has delivered outstanding performances during their recent run of shows throughout the UK and Europe.
“The vocalists were pitch-perfect, the musicians were flawless, they held the crowd throughout the entire performance and the atmosphere was phenomenal.”
“Campbell gave an excellent performance and was in fine voice.”
In addition to a jam-packed show of the classic hits, Ali will treat fans to new material from the band’s forthcoming album, Unprecedentedwhich will be released on 24 June and is the follow-up to 2018’s A Real Labour Of Love – which debuted at No.2, the highest charting album by any incarnation of UB40 since 1993’s Promises And Lies.
Unprecedented is fueled by the roots rocking spirit that powered UB40’s original embodiment of work and is an album to inject a little reggae sunshine into even the darkest days. It’s also a fitting memorial to Astro who sadly passed away in November 2021 following a short illness.
Ali comments, “This album is now more poignant and special than either of us could have imagined when we were recording it. Astro heartbreakingly passed just two weeks after we’d finished the final mixes, so this is a way of keeping his memory alive.”
I can’t wait to get back on stage and see all our wonderful Aussie fans, it’s been incredibly difficult performing without Astro by my side. Remembering Astro, let the music play on!”

Darwin’s DRAFTDAY debut their fresh new sound with their evocative new single “Callback”, streaming now via The AU Review.
Effortlessly moving between genres, “Callback” fuses slick electronic-pop verses with anthemic alt-rock choruses. Produced by DRAFTDAY’s own Manolis Kamitsis (bass) and Rowan Dally (drums) at Sands Studio and mixed by Sam Guaiana (Silverstein, The Devil Wears Prada, Between You And Me) the track is a confident shift away from their rock roots and towards an edgier signature sound.
Thematically, “Callback,” illustrates the ever-relatable headache of a breakup whilst encapsulating how difficult it can be to accept support from those around us during difficult times.
“‘Callback’ has this duality to it. In one sense, it’s an apology to the people that you push away when you’re struggling, and in another sense, it’s about trying to find an answer after losing someone close to you,” says vocalist Arran Barker. “The change of sound felt like a necessity to step a little deeper into something unknown.”
DRAFTDAY are a band that thrives within each part of the creative process with the “Callback” video, co-directed by guitarist Tom Ford along with award-winning cinematographer Tully Hemsley and Tor Burns. The clip is set in a warmly lit crowded bar and features old-school CRT TVs with distorted graphics that both illustrate the narrative and create a sense of nostalgia.
The band recently announced they would be returning to the stage to celebrate their home state Darwin for Territory Day at Mindil Beach on July 1. The band will play support for Australian Rock Collective, featuring members of legendary Australian bands Spiderbait, Jet, Powderfinger, You Am I and The Wrights.
“Callback” is DRAFTDAY’s first release since their debut EP ‘When I Went Away,’ which launched to a sold-out room in June of 2020 and received much support from triple j and triple j Unearthed. They have since supported the likes of The Smith Street Band and Belle Haven as well as performed at festivals such as Darwin Fringe and Rebound 2020.
“Callback” is available now for streaming on all platforms. Official single artwork below
Australia’s largest and favourite travelling music festival, aka Good Things Festival, is officially returning to ignite mosh pits and more along the east coast in December – and we can’t wait to celebrate with you!
With so few things to celebrate over the past few years and a severe lack of live music and festivals, it’s about time we all had something to look forward to; and Good Things Festival is bringing the good times and then some, offering a world-class line up entirely worth the wait.
To kickstart the celebrations lying in wait this December, Good Things Festival 2022 has confirmed none other than one of the world’s most electrifying and successful rock bands BRING ME THE HORIZON to headline proceedings. With BRIT and Grammy nominations, multi-platinum selling releases and over 1 billion YouTube views in their wake since forming in the early 2000s, BRING ME THE HORIZON continue to push expectations and sonic boundaries, and their live performances are nothing short of show-stopping to say the least.
Bring Me The Horizon above
They said it would never ever happen, but an Australian miracle will also take place at Good Things Festival – for their first live performances in 19 years, iconic and gold-selling larrikins TISM will be exclusively appearing onstage.
Forget the tone-deaf empty platitudes, Good Things Festival has also brought American heavyweights DEFTONES to ramp up festivities. Hailing from Sacramento, California, DEFTONES are undeniably one of the most innovative and enduring alternative metal acts of all time, and they’ll be in extremely good company alongside rough-and-tumble punk favourites NOFX this December as well. Pioneers of SoCal punk and nearly four decades into their careers, NOFX will perform their 1994 iconic album ‘Punk In Drublic’ in full and all your favourites at every Good Things Festival 2022 appearance, with all the hooks and refined raucous energy primed to explode on Aussie stages.
Speaking of Aussie stages, a band no stranger to playing at home and abroad is none other than The Amity Affliction, with the Queensland metallers set to bring their melodic and majestic brand of metalcore to the masses. Wielding their latest release, 2021’s EP ‘Somewhere Beyond the Blue’, as well as a horde of old favourites, this is one astounding affliction you’ll be ecstatic to experience live in action.
The party will be in full swing when Japanese rockers ONE OK ROCK take the stage, with the quartet’s dynamic blend of pop rock, post-hardcore and alternative rock set to simultaneously ignite some good vibes and dynamic singalongs. And fresh from releasing their chart-topping 2021 album ‘Fortitude’, French progressive metal behemoths GOJIRA are ready to unleash all the earth-shattering polyrhythms, blast beats and thought-provoking thematics fans have come to know and love on Australian soil.
The metal vibes keep coming with some delicious goth heaviness via Italian quintet LACUNA COIL, while noise firebrands and habitual party starters FEVER 333 will be lending their voice to the celebrations, as will the crushingly brutal Ukrainian hell-raisers JINJER. German metalcore shapeshifters ELECTRIC CALLBOY will be making their first ever trip down under for the occasion, with superstar start-up JXDN also set to chalk up his first-ever Australian performances.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper party without the inclusion of some other punk favourites, with appearances locked in from Swedish troublemakers MILLENCOLIN and Californian pop punk lords THE STORY SO FAR, as well as some triumphant sets from Norwegian punk rockers BLOOD COMMAND and Florida alternative giants SLEEPING WITH SIRENS to ensure a blistering blowout of epic proportions.
Blood Command above
The festivities continue, with American electronic music duo 3OH!3 and urban punk duo NOVA TWINSguaranteed to get you all fired up. And heavy metal icons SABATON will arrive armed with their band new album ‘The War To End All Wars’, choosing Australia as one of the first to hear the new tunes live, while SOULFLY will also fly the heavy metal flag, returning to their adoring down under fans after one of their longest periods away from Australia in their 30 year career.
But it’s not just the internationals we’ll be celebrating with this December, with an army of Aussie beloveds also ready to roll. Australian punk rock institution COSMIC PSYCHOS, a band who can claim Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder as a mate and musical peer, will be storming the Good Things Festival stages. Fellow Aussie staples also set to appear include rock and electropop trio REGURGITATOR and emphatic ARIA-nominated rockers KISSCHASY, as well as formidable artisan punk storytellers CHASING GHOSTS.
