releases new folk-pop EP

Little Big Steps

Melbourne based singer-songwriter Romanie releases her new EP Little Big Steps today. The EP is a soothing masterpiece suited for Sunday mornings or late night sessions. Led by indie-folk singles I’m Anything (But Myself Around You), Fake Friends and new single Stranger In My Skin, Romanie’s EP is marked by its diversity of themes and melodies, yet anchored together with the consistency of pure and emotive songwriting, self-reflection, all the while showcasing her personal story and journey from Belgium to Australia.

“Little Big Steps was born after a conversation with one of my best friends from Belgium, who was having a bad time. We had very long skype conversations about plans and dreams and one day she told me not to worry, because she would get back on her feet, “with little big steps”. I found the phrase so beautiful and comforting and thought about myself – moving countries, moving away from friends back in Belgium, starting over and finding new ways. Everything started to make sense in my head and I started to write more songs about my own journey, transition and about self reflection. Little Big Steps was the first song I wrote when I arrived on Australian soil in October 2019 and it feels like it was the last song I wrote with my “old” sound in my head. From then on, I think my songwriting started to shift a little towards a fuller sound.”

Australian media have already embraced tracks from Romanie’s EP including Changing, which was added to Coles Radio last week, and she’s had incredible support for I’m Anything But Myself Around You and Fake Friends from: Triple j Unearthed, Triple j Home & Hosed, Fbi, 2ser, 4ZZZ, 3RRR, Syn, Joyfm, Radio Adelaide and also MTV Upload video additions.

Romanie’s EP will delight fans of Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Rose and Julia Stone. It was produced by long-time collaborators James Seymour (Feelds, Merpire) at Small Time Group, and mastered by Isaac Barter

“I went into the studio with James after the long lockdown and played all the songs I had written over the period I had been in Australia. We decided, but not confirmed on some things and started with recording I’m Anything (But Myself Around You). Recording with James seemed to be really inspiring because each day I went into the studio with a new song I had written – telling him I really wanted that song to be on the EP. He put me back with my feet on the ground and told me that songs need to sit for a bit (forever grateful for this wise recommendation) but in the end one of the new songs ended up on the EP: Changing. Which is now one of both me and James’ favourite songs.” Romanie

Romanie created a special visual to accompany her sophomore EP, it features adventures in her new home in Australia.

“Little Big Steps is the story of my personal journey here in Australia so far. It’s about being in motion and growing as a person and musician. It’s a transition. I think writing music definitely saved me and felt really therapeutic at that time (still feels like it) and I think a lot of artists feel the same way.”
