Melbourne metalcore rising stars The Motion Below unveil their ferocious new single Fast Tracking My Collapse.
Experimenting with electronic elements, fierce instrumentation and unforgiving vocal deliveries, Fast Tracking My Collapse is a step in a new direction for the quartet. The snappy metalcore belter reflects on the experience of dealing with imposter syndrome, and navigating through negativity to reach positive affirmation.
“Fast Tracking My Collapse is about feeling a lack of true ownership for one’s accomplishments while simultaneously not feeling adequate enough to accomplish much of anything without the influence of outside forces,” explains vocalist Thomas Katgert. “It’s built around a theme of helplessness that, with time, develops into a sense of realisation that true accomplishment comes from the self.”
The new single was recorded by Kye Blomeley of KB Audio, produced independently by The Motion Below and mastered by Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Cog, The Butterfly Effect). Fast Tracking My Collapse is the bands second offering this year, with both bold new releases shapeshifting between hardcore, alternative and modern-rock for a fresh new take on The Motion Below’s established anthemic sound.
Colour In The Grey released at the end of March, featuring infectious melodies, jagged electric guitars and groove-oriented rhythms. True to their signature style, The Motion Below build and resolve tension seamlessly by creating a push and pull between the heaviness of the instrumentation, spacious passages, and hook-laden vocals. The single collected a few thousand streams, was added to Spotify editorial playlist Homegrown + Heavy and saw multiple spins on triple j’s short.fast.loud program.
Leaning into the band’s commitment to making 2023 their strongest year yet, The Motion Below announced their addition to the Destroy All Lines roster earlier this year, joining Parkway Drive, Polaris, Thornhill and more. The band launched Colour In The Grey live at Melbourne’s Stay Gold at their first headline show as a Destroy All Lines artist in April, where the band were taken aback by the packed-out room screaming their words back at them.
Hailing from all reaches of Melbourne in 2016, post-hardcore quartet The Motion Below came together over a shared passion for the alternative. Since their inception, the band have evolved their sound to soaring new heights, blending their metalcore roots into a captivating cocktail of post-hardcore, pop-punk and alternative rock.
The bands digital streams sit comfortably at over half a million overall plays, and their current collection of work has seen them perform alongside heavyweight metal acts including Story Of The Year (US), Northlane, Void of Vision, Diamond Construct, Windwaker and more as well as selling out their own hometown headliners.
