INTROSPECTIVE NEW SINGLE

“AFTERLIFE”

Perth alt-rockers Shangrila release their emotive new single Afterlife ahead of national September tour with Young Lions and multiple shows with Thrice (US).

Jam packed with velvety guitar work and fluid grooves, Shangrila bare all on Afterlife, a personal ode to existential stagnation. Introducing itself with a pop-punk beat before welcoming crashing guitars, thumping bass and cascading melodies the quintet created an an immersive sonic tapestry on their new tune. Watch the video here.

Vocalist Devyn Jupp delivers compelling melodies exploring the complex layers of navigating change through the lens of feeling stagnant, a pertinent theme in today’s climate. Following in the footsteps of Thrice and Slowly Slowly, Shangrila seamlessly blend alternative rock elements with post hardcore stylings and the result is a soaring, emphatic gem.

Afterlife is a track about struggling with your direction in life, feeling as though you are existing but not truly living,” says Jupp. “The song explores apprehension towards change, and the ultimate realization that often we are standing the way of our own growth, and need to go through uncomfortable moments and hard work to realise the best version of ourselves and enjoy the rewards that life has to offer.”

Produced by Matthew Templeman (Voyager, Make Them Suffer) and mastered by SimonStruthers (Sly Withers, Karnivool, Something For Kate), Afterlife joins the band’s collection of expertly crafted alt rock as they close in on 3 million overall Spotify streams and counting.

Shangrila are set to tour their new tune across the nation as the place second on the bill after The Beautiful Monument at Adelaide’s Winter DRPØUT Festival in late August before play a couple of shows with post-hardcore monsters Thrice (US) on The Artist In The Ambulance 20 Year Tour ahead of their national tour supporting Young Lions across Australia on the Burn 10 Year Anniversary Tour at the end of September. Tickets available here.

Forming in 2018 by Jackson Macleod (guitar) and Devyn Jupp (vocals), the alt rock outfit has progressed and transformed into the quintet we see today with the added inclusion of Dan Harper (drums), Gabrielle Morri (bass) and Chad Lambert (guitar).

Combining elements of alternative rock, post-hardcore and indie music with emotional and personal lyricism, Shangrila’s sound is a welcome refuge within the Australian alternative music community. Exploring the realities of life as a young adult trying to find their way in today’s world, Shangrila’s music combines emotional and mellow verses with powerful, soaring choruses which allow the full range of human emotion to shine through.

Since their humble beginnings in 2018, Shangrila have quickly found themselves performing across Australia, selling out headline shows and securing coveted support slots with national and international acts including Trophy Eyes, Karnivool, Dance Gavin Dance, Movements, Dashboard Confessional, Slowly, Slowly, Saosin, Thornhill, Northlane and more.

Afterlife is Shangrila’s next chapter, and is available and streaming everywhere now.
