Dubbed by Owl Eyes as perhaps her “most vulnerable track to date”, ‘Invisible Woman’ ruminates on the ways our identities can form around another person, and the emotional toll it can take when they’re barely even cognisant of it. “You can be in the loudest space and yet feel completely alone.”
The video (created under Covid-19 restrictions), features Owl Eyes alone in a dark room joined only by a vintage Yamaha keyboard in warm candlelight. A visual created at such a fragile moment in time, is instead a celebration of the strength Owl Eyes has found in vulnerability.
Over six genre-defying tracks that feature production from the likes of Flight Facilities, Aeroplane, Ryan Richie (Troye Sivan, KIMBRA) and Dean Tuza (Stella Donnelly, These New South Wales) and engineering from Geoff Swan (Haim, Grimes, Charlie XCX, FKA twigs), Invisible Woman details the journey of love and heartbreak in its many varying stages. While heartfelt in nature, Owl Eyes has delivered an element of spice that might surprise fans of the alt-pop star. Invisible Woman is reinforced with the kind of silent strength and conviction that comes only from a woman who has built herself back together, only to return stronger than ever.
The EP’s collection of singles; disco-infused ‘You And I’ accompanied by a Duc Thinh Dong direct video, ‘You Don’t Know Love’ – which features Zimbabwe-born, New York-based artist TAPZ, 2018’s tightly honed hooks and lyrical gut-punch ‘On Me’ (which has clocked over 1.4million streams and saw Owl Eyes share this stunning acapella version), and the recently released hazy pop delight ‘Toyko’, saw staunch support from streaming platforms, triple j and praise from The Guardian, NME, Elle Mag, RUSSH Mag, Fashion Journal, Pilerats and many more.
Today’s release comes with a spotlight on the EP’s title track ‘Invisible Woman’ and the unreleased funk infused ‘Silver & Gold’, which was produced by long-time collaborators and party-starting professionals, Flight Facilities and rounds out the EP with a much needed, cathartic dancefloor track that shows Owl Eyes at her very best.
