NEW SINGLE

‘TALK SLOWLY’

Perth artist/producer Newport today shares his latest single ‘Talk Slowly’, another sweet slice of alt-pop, arriving in accompaniment with a dreamy visualiser; a fast-paced vision of blue skies and open fields.

Following March indie earworm ‘notoveru.’, ‘Talk Slowly’ builds on an expanding repertoire for the rising songster and offers a teasing glimpse into a larger body of work slated to drop later this year.

Written with Pip Norman (Troye Sivan, Baker Boy, Mia Wray), ‘Talk Slowly’ continues Newport’s journey into infectious indie-pop – armed with catchy hooks, sultry vocals and trademark lo-fi beats. Describing the writing experience as being “a kid in a candy shop”, a cathartic 30-minute turnaround saw the pair explore feelings of love fading to heartbreak, with the words ‘talk slowly’ at the helm.

“This song feels sonically different to everything else I’ve done so far. It is the epitome of ‘don’t overthink shit’. It’s mixed feelings of being in love with someone and also feeling heartbreak. The first verse is all about doing things together, and the second verse is written with slightly different wording to show that I am trying to relive moments without you. This is one of those songs that sounds like a feel good pop rock tune, but actually has a darker meaning behind it when you dive into the lyrics. I love this song so much, I put it on every time I get into the car, I’m so glad it’s finally coming out and I can’t wait to hear what people think about it.”  – Newport

Newport is the project of singer, songwriter and producer Dylon Newport. Influenced by modern-alternative pop, soul and hip-hop, the Perth local creates compelling indie-pop. He has quickly found an audience for his unique brand of sun-soaked pop, earning almost 1million global streams and over 400k TikTok likes.

Since signing with Liberation Records in 2022 with single ‘Two Friends’, Newport’s catalogue has garnered immense streaming support, including love from Spotify indie tastemaker playlists crush and come thru, a #2 spot in Apple Music’s Superbloom, and a plethora of new music, indie-pop and alternative playlisting. Earlier single ‘Understand’ was featured in TikTok’s Pop and Recommended playlist, and has been used in over 4k TikTok videos to date.

Following an outstanding debut at BIGSOUND in 2022, Newport’s electric live show saw him recently billed alongside fellow WA locals Scarlet Drive, Tobias Lanes & Clauds. Perth fans’ next chance to catch Newport live is in support of Mitch Santiago on Friday 25 August at The Rosemount, with much more to come later this year.
