MELL HALL BREAKS RECORD FOR LONGEST REIGNING FEMALE ARTIST AT #1 ON ARIA CLUB CHART

MELL HALL BREAKS

RECORD FOR LONGEST

REIGNING FEMALE

ARTIST AT #1 ON

ARIA CLUB CHART

In what is yet again another inspiring achievement, Adelaide producer Mell Hall has made history, breaking the record for most consecutive weeks for a female artist at #1 on the ARIA Club Chart. Mell Hall, who just over ten weeks ago, released her debut single ‘Knock Knock feat. Thandi Phoenix’ via Club Sweat, has today marked a crowning accomplishment with her eighth consecutive week sitting atop the chart. The disco artist took the reins from fellow Australian Zoe Badwi whose 2008 single ‘Release Me’ stayed in pole position for seven weeks, with Mell breaking a record that stood for almost 13 years.

Mell Hall entered the chart 11 weeks ago, before going on to claim the top spot, becoming only the fifth Australian solo female artist to do so. ‘Knock Knock’ also signalled Thandi Phoenix’s first entry into the ARIA Club Chart, with the track the first to feature two Australian female artists in collaboration at #1 position. The track held off competition from renowned producers such as KLP and Stace Cadet, Martin Ikin, Purple Disco Machine, and John Summit, in order to maintain its top spot.

On the success, Mell Hall said “So grateful to see my debut record getting so much love.’Knock Knock’ was a joy to make, a joy to work with Thandi Phoenix and knowing that it brings audiences and my peers alike joy, what more could a girl want!? Big love to Team Sweat for the endless support. Feeling the moment for Women in Dance Music, girls to the front!

Lending their congratulations to Mell, in a statement, ARIA said, “It’s very exciting to see Mell Hallcontinue to break barriers, make history and represent women in dance music in such a fantastic way. Congratulations from all of us at ARIA, we can’t wait to dance again!”

A funk-fuelled production that resonated with fellow producers and industry with its uplifting piano melody, and energetic horns, drew influences from the disco and funk era. The raw and powerful vocals of Thandi Phoenix evoked a vibrant chorus and further complemented the nu-disco anthem.  ‘Knock Knock’ drew the attention of some of the industry’s finest, with prolific edit master Dr Packer – whose remix credits include the likes of Purple Disco Machine, Siedah Garrett, and The Shapeshifters – jumping on remix duties to further enforce the track’s anthem status. French Nu-Disco producer Mark Lower further took the remix reins, while Australian producer Yogi finished off the pack for a stellar collection of remixes.

Earmarked for success from release, ‘Knock Knock’ was named as triple j’s Friday Night Shuffle ‘Tune Of The Week’ before being added on rotation across triple j Unearthed, while Mell went on to appear as a guest on triple j’s Friday Mix. Mell Hall’s signing with Club Sweat was announced by The Music Network, as the single and her success garnered press support from the likes of The Music, Pilerats, AAA Backstage, and Life Without Andy among others. With stellar remixes under her belt for Torren Foot’s ‘More Life’, David Penn & Milk & Sugar’s ‘Happy People’, and Stace Cadet and KLP’s ARIA-nominated ‘Energy’, Mell Hall’s production prowess had been well recognised by the industry well before her debut release with ‘Knock Knock’.  A go-to DJ for some of the world’s best touring producers – Disclosure, Basement Jaxx, Todd Terry, Late Nite Tuff Guy, to name a few – her disco edits are renowned among the industry. With a debut single that has achieved accolade after accolade, Mell Hall is bound to further find herself rubbing shoulders with some of the industry’s finest, and become a mainstay in the Australian dance scene.
