BEN CONNOR’S NEW SINGLE ‘PHOTOGRAPH’

BEN CONNOR’S

NEW SINGLE

PHOTOGRAPH

The music video for ‘Photograph’, the first single from Ben Connor’s upcoming alternative rock, blues and folk album, ‘Stone Fields’, was released yesterday, with the song now available on streaming platforms. Connor has been described as the musical love child of Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and David Gray and has been performing regularly, both solo and with his duo, Ben Connor & The Butterman, at venues and festivals in the Blue Mountains and beyond since 2017.

Photograph’, Connor says, ‘Is a song about the aftermath of a relationship. A classic case of not knowing what you’ve got till it’s gone’.

‘The relationship between the protagonists was a little fraught, but now they are separated, they are both a bit lost, trying to find themselves. Him, in the pursuit of success, which is proving less than satisfactory and her, by turning inward – maybe a little too much. Anyways, he’s pining for her… keeps a photograph of her… imagines his with her and dreams of them living a quiet life together away from it all.’

The truly unique animated music video for ‘Photograph’ was created by media artist and filmmaker Miguel Valenzuela. It combines watercolor cut-out characters, computer graphic sets and extraordinary photomontages that seemingly pay homage to the more stylish artistic works of Monty Python’s Terry Gilliam.

Connors album, ‘Stone Fields’, is due for release on 2nd February, 2023.

Dark, with splashes of light, layered with instrumental palates and propelled by Ben’s special brand of husky baritone vocals, ‘Stone Fields’s’ songs journey through love, fatherhood, contemplations on mortality, majestic and mythical landscapes and more.

It was recorded at a number of locations over the course of the pandemic, including Sky Valley Studios in Warrimoo, BCMuse Studios on the Queensland Sunshine Coast and Connor’s home studio in Katoomba. It features session musicians Ryan Van Gennip on bass and rhythm guitar and Brian Cachia on drums and percussion. Brian, also an accomplished sound engineer and award-winning film composer (APRA Feature Film Score of The Year, 2021), mixed the album and mastering was done by Grammy Award winning William Bowden (Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, 2013).
