ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM FIRST BODY (JAN 18)
+ REVEAL NEW SINGLE ‘IN THE GARDEN’
+ SIGN TO TERRIBLE RECORDS (USA)

Two People are elated to reveal their forthcoming debut offering First Body is fully formed and will be released on Friday 18 January. Today, the Melbourne duo share another cut ‘In The Garden’ and also announce their signing to Terrible Records – the Brooklyn-based label behind Solange, Moses Sumney, Empress Of, and Blood Orange.

Two People’s sound is guided by bold visual cues, DIY principles and an emphasis on the empty space between notes as much as the notes themselves, with ‘In The Garden’ a perfect example. Positioned as the second of nine tracks, it has one of the grittiest grooves on the album. Phoebe Lou’s voice sounds defiant as she details a relationship in which she was starved for space. “It’s about gaining my power back for the first time and the clumsiness in that”, she says.

Two People are currently on a double headline tour with LUCIANBLOMKAMP, with the opening show taking place at Melbourne’s Howler last weekend. Cloaked in red light and smoke, the Two People live show is quickly becoming an illustrious aspect of the project. Two People played live for the first time at Splendour In The Grass 2018 before performing one of the most talked about showcases at BIGSOUND – where they were spotted by Terrible Records and quickly signed to for North America.

‘In The Garden’ follows on from previous singles ‘Something To Talk About’ and ‘I’m Tied, To You, which are receiving global attention, with spins on BBC Radio 1 and Radio 6, and local adds to triple j and FBi. Two People are also featured in a deep collection of Apple Music and Spotify playlists, including Chill Vibes, which reaches over 900,000 followers.

First Body was self-recorded between 2016 – ’18 by Phoebe Lou and Joey Clough at their respective homes and their own 2P Studio 11 – a dilapidated old room in Fitzroy, which they renovated with love. “We didn’t focus on making it a recording studio” says Joey. “We just wanted to have a nice space. It’s almost the thing that defined our album.” One of the few people invited into Two People’s insular musical world, was Scottish producer/engineer Rodaidh McDonald (King Krule, Sampha, The xx), who came on board to mix the lead single ‘I’m Tied, To You’ before offering to mix the album at XL Studios in London.

First Body is now available for pre-order on all digital platforms and 180gm vinyl.

‘In The Garden’ is out now through Terrible Records (Nth America) and Liberation Records (ROW).
