Having built a name synonymous with popular charity music events that have seen the podcast grow into a successful brand, What We Did On The Weekend are giving back to their community with a covers compilation album entitled ‘The Better Sessions Vol. 1‘.

Enlisting the help from local Australian heavy acts such as Bad/Love, Inertia, ATLVS and more, all proceeds from album sales will be donated to Beyond Blue, a charity close to hosts Jason Mack and Matthew Burgess hearts.

“Our aim was to flashback to the old days of Punk Goes Pop albums, but with a modern flare and with local bands. The Aus scene is teaming with great talent so we thought why not help expose it.”  Co-host Mack says.

Beginning as a hypothetical question to bands who guested on the WWDOTW podcast, ‘The Better Sessions‘ has manifested into a fully fledged vinyl release, partnering with label and social collective, Anti Vinyl Vinyl Club.

Mack goes on to say: “We got the idea of doing a covers compilation last year while we were interviewing bands on the podcast. We’d ask them what song they’d cover for ‘Like a Version’ on Triple J. The recordings started and it snowballed from there.”

All profits from the album sales are going direct to charity Beyond Blue with plans to continue a fundraising effort annually.

The Better Sessions Vol. 1‘ is out now, streaming everywhere. Purchase the album on vinyl here.
