Hailing from Harlem NYC, Taylor’s talents as an ambitious teenage R&B performer were first recognised and guided by N.E.R.D.’s Pharrell Williams, which ultimately led her to acareer shaping step onto Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. music label and saw her guest on his ground-breaking record, “My Beautiful Twisted Dark Fantasy”. Following up with a performance in West’s ‘Fade’ music video in 2016, the clip made Taylor an instant global sensation. The video which now boasts more than 117 million views worldwide, sent her sensual Flashdance-esque moves all over the world – Melburnians even responded with a special ‘Fade’ dance class at The Toff, a year after the song’s initial release.
Releasing a series of her own hotly-received mixtapes – including collaborations with John Legend, Travis Scott, Pusha T and Missy Elliot – and a debut album “K.T.S.E” (keep that same energy). The record drew acclaim for its unique old-school R&B flavours and booming hip-hop beats and now, Melbourne can finally experience the rare and rising talents of Teyana Taylor which even Elton John remarked as being “a masterpiece”.
