Ivy League Records is proud to announce the 2022 return of Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever with the release of the Melbourne quintet’s third album, Endless Rooms – out Friday May 6. Described by the band as them “Doing what we do best: chasing down songs in a room together”Endless Rooms stands as a testament to the collaborative spirit and live power of RBCF. To celebrate, the band have released their new single, ‘The Way It Shatters’, a surge of energetic and sophisticated guitar-pop full of driving beats, rich textures & the band’s renowned chemistry on full display – a propulsive and thrilling glimpse into the world of RBCF’s third album.

The video for ‘The Way It Shatters’ was directed by Nick Mckk, who said of the process, “The new album has a night time feeling, so we wanted to explore shooting the whole thing from sundown. Fran had the idea of revisiting memories, of resetting groundhog day style, but each time we come back the world is a little different. The attraction of light works as a narrative device, coaxing Joe into this house of memories, and back out again.”

Endless Rooms is a culmination of the band’s career to date; honouring the spirit of their breakthrough debut LP Hope Downs & 2020 follow-up Sideways To New Italy, and bringing their immersive live energy to the forefront more than ever.  After initial ideas were traded online during long spells spent separated by lockdowns, the band’s third album was truly born during small windows of freedom in which the band would decamp to a mud-brick house in the bush around 2hrs north of Melbourne on Taungurung and Yorta Yorta country, built by the extended Russo family in the 1970s.

There, its 12 tracks took shape, informed to such an extent by the acoustics and ambience of the rambling lakeside house that they decided to record the album – and shoot the album cover –there. For the first time, the band self-produced the record (alongside engineer, collaborator and old friend, Matt Duffy), creating their most naturalistic and expansive document yet. The result is a collection of songs permeated by the spirit of the place; punctuated by field recordings of rain, fire, birds, and wind.

“It’s almost an anti-concept album,” say the band. “The Endless Rooms of the title reflects our love of creating worlds in our songs. We treat each of them as a bare room to be built up with infinite possibilities.”

Endless Rooms will be available on digital, CD, black vinyl & Sub Pop’s limited edition Loser opaque yellow vinyl on May 6th, 2022 through Ivy League Records in Australia and New Zealand and Sub Pop for the rest of the world.

ABOUT ROLLING BLACKOUTS C.F. Endless Rooms follows the band’s second album, the #4 ARIA-charting album Sideways To New Italy (2020) and their breakthrough debut, 2018’s Hope Downs, with both records garnering praise by critics across the globe.
