Hold onto your hats, friends – Kieran J Hennessy has arrived. A singer, writer, producer and dance maniac, Kieran J Hennessy (Kjh), who hails from Diamond Beach in New South Wales, encompasses thoughtful yet saucy electronica doused in pro-political messaging and consistent compassion.
Kjh today welcomes you to ‘The Filthy Flamingo’. A place of reckless abandon. A place to hide and belong. A spaced out 70’s, pink-tinted motel pool party. An homage to an imaginary yet oh-so-nostalgic party palace. Welcome to The Filthy Flamingo! Of the track and his new project, Kjh says, “‘The Filthy Flamingo’ is carefree and silly in its nature, but that in itself is a rebellion against the puritanical tyranny we are all faced with. This project goes far deeper from here. I’m stoked and humbled to be creating and releasing it.”
With ‘The Filthy Flamingo’, Kjh has produced an utterly fun bop; an electronic house track with a rock-solid, sing-along chorus guaranteed to get stuck in your head. “I love how experimental you can get with producing electronic music,” Kjh says. “It’s malleable, you turn a bass slap into a throbbing guitar synth, you blur genres, you get nerdy on the mixdown, and still you can deliver poetry and performance and real messages on top.”
As an accompaniment to the song, Kieran J Hennessy has collaborated with videographer Eric Boudville to bring the imagined Filthy Flamingo world to life in all it’s escapist, indulgent, pink-feathered glory. But y’all will have to keep your rose-coloured glasses from fogging up because it’s a minute away.
With influences referencing the likes of Channel Tres, Prince, Golden Features, Nyxen and Lady Gaga, Kieran J Hennessy shines in an ultra light beam all of his own, mixing electronic music with songwriting, theatre and performance art with social justice – all with a sprinkling of regional larrikinism. Kjh is a cross-section of mindfulness, compassion, constructive dissent and critical thinking, where dark meets light, nature battles tech, and honesty attacks taboos.
