PART PALADIN RELEASES

‘KOEDAL’ SINGLE

A thud of heavy, a splash of colour, a brood of mood. Part Paladin is a project created by Sydney-based (Gadigal Land) indigenous instrumentalist/producer Dux Newton. Today, Dux announces the release of his new single, Koedal. It will be released on all digital stores and streaming platforms on Friday January 21 at https://ditto.fm/koedal.

Koedal, pronounced “kah-dahl”, roughly translates to ‘clan’ – Dux’s father’s clan is Aith Koedal. The clan originates on Saibai Island in the Torres Strait between Queensland, Australia’s north-eastern-most tip and Papua New Guinea – and is associated with a Crocodile Totem.

Dux Newton, the engine room and creative force behind Part Paladin, said of the new single and his music in general, “Being of Indigenous (Torres Strait Islander) background but growing up and living away from that part of my heritage, Koedal speaks to my struggles with identity, and an existence with knowledge and experiences only of my western heritage. It calls on an urge to discover it and explores the concept of becoming whole once I find and am at peace with the missing parts of my bloodline.”

Forged in lockdown in 2020 as a bedroom recording project, Part Paladin released his first single The Rise and the Fall in January 2021.

Now, January 2022 sees the release of this new single Koedal. A marked sonic step-up from the first, it features guest appearances on drums and cello, improved production and tackles personal themes of identity, heritage, and cultural dynamics.

Moving somewhere in the spaces between post-metal, modern progressive metal and alternative rock, Part Paladin blends hard driving rhythms, melodic metal characteristics and pop sensibilities.

The track was recorded, composed and produced by Dux Newton, as well as his performance on vocals, guitars & bass, Pete Drummond played the Drums, Jonathan C performed the Cello parts and Marvin at Tide Studios London Mixed & Mastered the track. Youssef Mostafa created a lyric video to illustrate and convey the messages of the song.

Koedal is out everywhere now on all digital stores and streaming platforms at https://ditto.fm/koedal.
