‘FADING LIKE A PICTURE’
DMA’S are today sharing more new music from their highly-anticipated fourth album How Many Dreams?, with the release of new single ‘Fading Like A Picture’ with an accompanying video shot by award-winning filmmakers DIVISION (A$AP ROCKY, Rosalía, Megan Thee Stallion, Travis Scott).
Recent new cuts from the album – ‘I Don’t Need To Hide’, ‘Olympia’ and ‘Everybody’s Saying Thursday’s The Weekend’, the latter of which is nominated for Radio X’s Record Of The Year 2022 – have made clear the band’s intentions to take down barriers, entangle the broad palette of their collective influences, and push to write their most sprawling and ambitious album to date.
It has been a period of re-discovery for the band, resulting in a record that is the grand sum of every part of who DMA’S are, as guitarist Johnny Took comments: “Our palette for this album was a lot broader because we’ve learned so much since our debut and we’ve listened to so much more music between then and now, which has shaped us. It felt like a first outing all over again. The excitement was the same.”
Like previous track ‘Olympia’, ‘Fading Like A Picture’ is built around another sticky Matthew Mason guitar riff. Took continues: “Tommy wrote the majority of this song to an obscure demo I made during lockdown. When we all came together to demo it, Mason added one of my favourite guitar riffs on the new album, and we used the middle-eight from another demo as the chorus. A true DMA’S collaboration.”
DMA’S began their 2023 with a huge show in support of Arctic Monkeys at Sydney’s Domain on 14th Jan and will soon return to the UK for another big run of headline dates (including a massive show at OVO Arena Wembley) following the release of new album How Many Dreams? on 31st March.
The band’s latest singles have seen strong support and playlisting at Absolute, Absolute 20s, Nova, Radio X, triple j, Triple M and Virgin Radio, plus spins at BBC Radio 1, and have garnered glowing press coverage from Clash, Dork, Far Out, Gigwise, Hunger, The i Paper and Soccer AM (where they performed ‘I Don’t Need To Hide’ live). The new music has also been dominating streaming platforms worldwide, with adds to Spotify’s New Music Friday across UK, Australia & New Zealand, Belgium, Netherlands, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam – plus a slew of tastemaker playlists across Apple, Amazon, Deezer, TIDAL, Soundcloud and YouTube Music. As of mid-December, DMA’S were the most playlisted artist in Australia.

DMA’S new material arrives as their first since last year’s celebrated EP I Love You Unconditionally, Sure Am Going To Miss You, which in turn followed the band’s highest charting album to date, 2020’s THE GLOW (ARIA #2, UK Official Albums Chart #4, Scotland #1).
As the band sit on the cusp of releasing their new album How Many Dreams?, DMA’S have found an iconic, mythical status among their fanbase – 65,000 ticket sales on their last UK tour alone shows the open-armed response they elicit on international shores. Their world is one of acceptance, freedom of expression, collective high, and each twist and turn in their journey to this point has led them to what will be a landmark album release for the band. The album’s opening offerings represent the comfort in being embraced but more than that, they exemplify the biggest talent that DMA’S possess: the ability to distil the wrenches of their personal stories into anthemic universal experiences.
How Many Dreams? was crafted by the band to be the grand sum of every part of who DMA’S are. Gleaned from over 70 early demos, it sees them drawing from a wider sonic palette than ever before. Recorded in London with Stuart Price (Dua Lipa, The Killers, Pet Shop Boys) and Rich Costey (Sigur Ros, Muse, Foster the People), then completed with Konstantin Kersting (Mallrat, The Jungle Giants) in the band’s hometown of Sydney, How Many Dreams? charters a course with stops at dizzying highs and crushing lows. There are songs to come up to and songs to come down to. It is the band emerging from a darker place, and the exhilarating future sound of a band without barriers at the top of their game.
