It was with much excitement that I OH YOU geared up to release DMA’S now 5 x ARIA nominated album THE GLOW on Friday 10 July 2020. As final touches were put in place for an album that would go on to debut at #2 on the ARIA Album Chart, #4 in the UK and #1 in Scotland, a shipment of precious tri-colour vinyl arrived and in true 2020 style, some of it arrived at the warehouse with damaged packaging.

Not to be deterred and with the heart of the product (the stunning blue, green and red tri-coloured vinyl) still in perfect condition, collective heads were put together to work out how to give this vinyl the life it deserved, and not be discarded along with the damaged packaging. The idea of giving the vinyl an “Upcycle” was born. DMA’S highlighted 4 artists they admire greatly, Arkie Barton, Leif Podhajsky, Matty D’arienzo and Serwah Attafuah to come on board for this very special project. Each artist was sent 9 clean vinyl sleeves to reimagine THE GLOW artwork in their own way and create bespoke pieces to rehouse the undamaged wax itself.

Each artist has created one unique artwork that will sit across 9 sleeves so each customer will be buying a real collector’s item, owning a truly one-of-a-kind vinyl sleeve that makes up 1/9th of a larger piece of art. The 36 unique pieces being released as part of THE GLOW UP will be displayed via THIS virtual gallery from today for fans around the world to view. All 36 pieces will go on sale at 6pm AEST on Wednesday 7th July 2021 to mark the one-year anniversary of THE GLOW.

ARKIE BARTON
Arkie Barton is an emerging artist, fashion and textile designer, currently living in Naarm. Arkie is a proud Kalkadungu and Bidjara woman, whose art practice draws from her experience as a First Nations woman and cultural connection to create beautiful pieces across multiple disciplines. Painting from age 5, she has held many exhibitions and collaborations over the years, building up to her current diversification of creative practice.

LEIF PODHAJSKY
Leif is a Grammy Nominated artist and Creative Director. His work explores themes of connectedness, the relevance of nature and the psychedelic experience. By utilising these subjects he attempts to inspire the viewer into a realignment with themselves and their surroundings.

SERWAH ATTAFUAH
Serwah is a self-taught digital artist, painter and heavy metal musician. Quoting The Matrix as her bible, her captivating visions of delicate cyborgs and surreal wastelands have established her as one of the most important digital Australian artists. Serwah’s work speaks of empowerment, Afrofuturism and her Ashanti/ Akan heritage.

MATTY D’ARIENZO
Matty D’Arienzo’s world has been a fusion of the arts, finding his feet in music and his own personalised spin on tattooing. Born in Melbourne, living in London for the last 12 years he has made his mark on the tattoo industry working at the highly acclaimed tattoo studio Into You Tattoo, before opening his own private studio for art and tattooing in East London under the name Rough Estate. Melbourne, London and parts of Europe, the inspiration behind much of his artwork. The canvas an outlet for his juxtaposed personality. A creative showcase, as much a story of his life living abroad.

Having just been nominated for 3 x AIR Awards (Independent Album Of The Year, Best Independent Rock Album, Best Independent Dance, Electronica Or Club Single for ‘Criminals (The Avalanches Remix’)) in addition to their 3 x top #10 ARIA albums, 9 x ARIA-nominations, and multiple ARIA Platinum and ARIA Gold, DMA’S are a true story of triumph, a band that continue to push the boundaries of their creative output.

After playing 18 x ‘Unplugged & Intimate’ shows in Sydney in July last year which sold out almost instantly, DMA’S will be hitting the road in September & October for a national THE GLOW album tour, their first full band headline shows since their record-breaking sold-out show at London’s iconic 5,000 capacity O2 Academy Brixton back in March 2020.
