DAYS LIKE THESE
FLAUNT THEIR POP SIDE
ON COLOURFUL NEW SINGLE
“LUNA” OUT NOW
Brisbane alternative rock trio Days Like These pick at the boundaries of alternative world with the release of their colourful new single, “Luna“.
Joining forces once again with long term collaborator Chris Lalic (Windwaker, To Octavia, The Last Martyr) on the production and mixing, Days Like These add Grammy nominated mastering engineer, Chris Gehringer (Avril Lavigne, Glass Animals, Lil Nas X) to the fold, taking “Luna” to a whole new level.
Experimenting with a more pop-focussed sound, “Luna” is a quirky journey about throwing away all inhibitions and rationale for the sake of lust. It’s about doing something that you know is wrong, and can’t help but give in to temptation.
“Coming back from recording the ‘Wide Awake’ EP we were so inspired to continue writing. We had learnt so much during our time in the studio and wanted to get straight back into it,” says vocalist Callen Batson.
“We finished ‘Wide Awake’ in June 2020, and exactly one year later we finished writing our second EP. We had one song that didn’t quite fit with the rest of them, but we still felt that we had to release it as it was an avenue we hadn’t explored before yet we still felt rather comfortable in it. We aren’t afraid to experiment and we don’t feel limited in what we can or can’t do with our sound.”
Days Like These is Callen Batson (vocals), Noah Murphy (drums/vocals) and Russell Hodgeson (guitar). The band burst onto the scene in 2018 and have worked tirelessly to become one of Brisbane’s most exciting up and coming alt rock acts. After the release of their debut EP ‘Wide Awake‘ in May earlier this year, the trio soared and became a staple of the scene, supporting sold out shows with the likes of Belle Haven and Polaris before quickly selling out their own EP launch show in May.
The bands debut EP ‘Wide Awake‘ introduced pop songs with heavy guitars, rave inspired tracks, huge chorus’ and tasteful riffs throughout, offering a diverse plethora of styles and sounds. The release featured at a multitude of key tastemaker outlets including HEAVY Mag, Music Feeds, Alternative Press, Spotify’s New Music Friday AU + NZ playlist, triple j and Unearthed – and they even found a place on Channel 7 Friday Night AFL.
The trio recently announced their place alongside Starve in support of Diamond Construct on the Hit It Back tour kicking off in January, before they’ll take the stage at the third instalment of Halloween Hysteria Festival in April alongside Spiderbait, Mammal, Clowns, RedHook, Gravemind and more. With more shows lurking in the wings, Days Like These are itching to showcase their eclectic sound and image as far as they can reach.
Combining powerful riffs, infectious melodies and grand soundscapes, the young trio aim to not be pigeon-holed. “Luna” is a clear testimony to this, available and streaming everywhere now!
