TIARNIE RELEASES ‘SORRY (TOO MUCH)’ THE SECOND SINGLE FROM HER UNTITLED SOPHOMORE EP

TIARNIE RELEASES ‘SORRY (TOO MUCH)
THE SECOND SINGLE FROM HER UNTITLED SOPHOMORE EP

Emerging singer-songwriter – Tiarnie – presents the apologetic and vulnerable second single from her untitled sophomore EP; ‘Sorry (Too Much)’.

Too exhausted to sleep after a “hectic weekend of late nights and gigs”, Tiarnie pulled herself out of a dark place the best way she knows how – by grabbing her guitar and cathartically improvising lyrics. Having been “constantly surrounded by friends and excitement” throughout the weekend, Tiarnie was “now alone in [her] room feeling lonely and homesick”.

Putting her phone on airplane mode to “stop [herself] contacting friends and family scattered across [her] hometown of Canberra and the South Coast”, Tiarnie began “singing everything that [she] would’ve texted to [her] best friend”.

“I stayed up for hours playing the same guitar riff and singing jumbled nonsense to my bedroom ceiling, until I passed out with my guitar in my bed.” She recorded a 7 minute improv voice memo moments before crashing, saved in her phone as ‘Why Am I Still Awake? (Sunday Night Sadness)’.

“There’s a phenomenon my family and best friends refer to as the ‘Sunday Night Sadies’ – which is when I often call them on a Sunday night crying and complaining that they are so far away and I feel isolated in Sydney.” The song was written as somewhat of an “apology letter to everyone in my life for being a liability and causing them to worry about me.’

From there, Tiarnie demo’d the song with her friend Robbie Macpherson at his home studio in Glenorie. “It was stupid o’clock at night and we were about to call it a day when I played ‘Sorry (Too Much)’ on my unplugged tele. We were both hungover and deliriously tired, but this song sparked a whole new wave of inspiration.

Time seemed infinite as Robbie added in drums and bass to build the emotional intensity and mould the track from a vulnerable acoustic song to an anthemic track – without lacking heart or lessening the sentiment.”

Tiarnie eventually recorded the song – as it is now – at the Grove Studios with her band: Stirling Jayasuriya on lead guitar, Tahlia McLennan on bass, and Logan Ritchie on drums. It was produced by Jackson Barclay (Maddy Jane, Vera Blue)

After a first full-band take of the song at the Grove, Jackson declared the song a “worldwide smash” and suggested that Tiarnie increase the tempo of the track, which “lifted the energy and made it more punchy”.

On the last night at The Grove, Tiarnie and her team had a listening party in the studio. “The song made myself and my band incredibly emotional. ‘Sorry (Too Much)’ was no longer a dark moment encapsulated in time of a Sunday night breakdown in my bedroom, but a beautiful memory of me reaching out to the world and my team embracing me with open arms”.

In essence – “it became a song for anyone who has ever thought that they are ‘too much’ or felt like a liability- your feelings are completely valid, and you are not alone”.

‘Sorry (Too Much)’ was produced by Jackson Barclay, who recently produced Maddy Jane’s Triple J Feature Album of the Week, ‘Not All Bad or Good’. Jackson has otherwise previously engineered and mixed for Vera Blue, and co-written for Tia Gostelow. ‘Don’t Ask Me’ was mastered by Trent Dobson (Maddy Jane, Vera Blue).

This follows the success of Tiarnie’s first EP, ‘Consistently Inconsistent’, which has received 70,000+ streams since it’s release in early 2020. This release marked a number of milestones for Tiarnie – receiving Spotify editorial support, career first Triple J plays alongside radio support from FBi, SYN, Radio Adelaide and ABC National Radio.

To celebrate the release of the EP, she played a sold-out headline tour of Sydney, Canberra and Wollongong, a feat she replicated for her last single. Tiarnie has since received continued Spotify editorial support for her last single, ‘Don’t Ask Me’, with placement in ‘New Music Friday’ and ‘Local Noise’.
