A bold introduction to merci, mercy’s low key but utterly compelling nature, ‘Fucked Myself Up’ is a soon-to-be festival favourite, jam packed with iconic lines and is the first taste from an exciting young Australian artist. Her honest, intimate storytelling exudes everyday life’s drama, exuberance and regret and is layered over music with attitude. The track was produced by writing/production team Edwin White (Vance Joy, Fergus James) and Joel Quartermain (G Flip, Oh Pep, Meg Mac).
On the song, mercy says “Fucked Myself Up is about dependence on alcohol, it gave me the confidence to be able to talk to people. I was getting fucked up on purpose in order to allow myself to be around people I didn’t know. My goal is to make music that talks openly about mental health, so it’s as normal as talking about what you’re eating for dinner. Fucked Myself Up is me saying yes, I have a problem but I’m doing my best, so leave me alone.”
merci, mercy is signed to Liberation Records (home of Julia Jacklin, The Temper Trap, Vance Joy) managed by Lauren Poulter and Rachael Tulloch (Vance Joy, Edwin White), and booked by Evan Davis and Katie Rynne from Village Sounds (home of DMA’s, G Flip, Violent Soho).
With the release of ‘Fucked Myself Up’ and more exciting news to arrive, merci, mercy is all set to take on the international stage.
