There is nothing like forced rest, recovery and isolation to kick start a process of rebirth, reinvention and reignition, as Brisbane’s Val Flynn found out earlier this year.
After returning home from New York, Val was bedridden for two months recovering from COVID 19. His time in isolation (like many others) was an opportunity to stop, step back and evaluate his true musical north.
‘Love Ain’t Free’ is the first look at this resulting progression. A stunning pop anthem dedicated to one’s vulnerability, for all those people going through those lonely days where they don’t feel strong enough, pretty enough, or loved enough, that perfectly captures Val’s evolution from hip hop to pop.
Along with producer Hugh Middleton (Out With The In), Val has used this time to create a new body of work that flows from his hearts to yours, with a whole new sound—encouraging you to accept and embrace this rollercoaster of life, heartbreaks and all.
The clip for ‘Love Ain’t Free’ was a collaboration with creative director and costume designer Billy Heinemann. Telling a tale of innocence in a desultory world. A futuristic world where one man is catapulted among humans who no longer exist in the form that we know them, metamorphosing into loveless monsters. It’s about his battle to remain steadfast and not get caught up in the new normal of the world he has found himself in.
