TOTALLY UNICORN RETURN

WITH AFFIRMING NEW SINGLE

& VIDEO, ‘LIKE’

Wollongong-come-Sydney based quartet, Totally Unicorn, are striding into the New Year with new music in hand, in the form of single ‘Like’. The single & video marks their first release since they put out sophomore album ‘Sorry’ in 2019, and showcases Totally Unicorn in their finest form to date.

‘Like’ was brought into being in 2020, and was born from COVID lockdown boredom, as a lot of creative content crafted during the year that was would be. During NSW’s ease of restrictions mid last year, Totally Unicorn used the opportunity to jump into The Parliament Studios to record with producer Lachlan Mitchell (The Jezabels, Hard-Ons, Nazxul). With Steve Smart (Parkway Drive, Grinspoon, Bad//Dreems, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers) on mastering duties, the end result is a punchy, ferocious delight.

The track and video, in a nutshell, busts a nut for social media. The clip takes a low brow jab at social media and its never-ending supply of “influencers”. If you’re looking for witty commentary on the trials and tribulations of society’s screen-time addiction, you best look elsewhere. Going no further than a Footy Show-style portrayal of character stereotypes, each member of the band adopts, albeit badly, familiar personalities that have at one time or another flooded your timelines. Everyone from ASMR YouTubers to Flat Earthers are present in this music video. It’s cheeky, gratuitous, and tongue-in-cheek – would you expect any less from Totally Unicorn?

Commentating on the must watch film clip, the band notes that it “reaches critical mass at the song’s climax, our cast of unruly influencers can be seen excreting bucket loads of instant gratification. This is where the clip takes a turn for the worst, or best, depending on which side of the green screen you find yourself on.”

‘Like’, which is out now via Farmer & The Owl/BMG, will be the first in a string of new Totally Unicorn music to be released this year.
