‘4 SONGS I MADE IN CALIFORNIA’

EP OUT NOW

Singer/songwriter Dylan J today shares his anticipated EP ‘4 Songs I Made In California’. Produced by Grammy nominated producer Tele Fresco, the EP is available to stream and download now via Warner Music Australia.

The EP comes off the back of Dylan’s first trip to the US since the pandemic; working with Aaron Shadrow (Trippie Redd, Iann Dior), Seaforth, Lucius Arthur (Siickbrain) and more. The EP features lead single “Notice Me with Ruel, which was met with wide industry support upon release; and the anthemic and soaring “Before It Started” along with two new tracks, the effortless “Naive Love” and the stunningly vulnerable closer “Like No Ones Watching”.

These 4 songs came at a real transitional phase of my career. They came from a place of feeling lonely and unsure of what my life was becoming and going to look like in the near future. I felt lost in my romantic life, in my career and in how I felt about myself and my identity. We all go through seasons and this one for me, took shape in the form of sad noted love songs. I could have rapped my whole way through this record, but I could feel that the songs were asking to be sung and I really found a new era of my voice by following that. Pop music has always been a core part of what I do, but I believe this record was the gateway to taking my songs to a new level. I love this record and the significance it’ll have in my career. I hope you can relate to some of it in one way or another.” – DYLAN J

Dylan J is disrupting the preconceived stereotype of how an artist must be attached to a single genre. As diverse as he is charming, the Melbourne based artist and songwriter absorbs creative inspiration from almost every genre, ranging from Rnb, Pop, Hip Hop and Country, invoking a combination of nostalgia and progressive influences in his work – Dylan is crossing genre borders left, right and centre.

After his 2015 breakthrough debut release Authentic Lemonade became triple j’s Feature Album, the love from audiences and artists alike began flooding in. Having already amassed over 10 million global streams, Dylan has released a number of experimental records such as You Were Made To Blossom that saw him working alongside heavy hitting producers such as M-Phazes (Eminem, Demi Lovato, Remi Wolf) and Cam Bluff (Amy Shark, Hilltop Hoods), with whom Dylan co-produced Authentic Lemonade.

In 2020 Dylan sparked an honest, open conversation with his audience via the poignant and self-made acoustic EP Bad At Love. Produced and mixed entirely by Dylan, the EP featured an extreme sense of vulnerability, that when coupled with the stripped back nature of each song, became the perfect indication of Dylan’s ever-evolving musical voyage. It’s the first time I’ve really written about my romantic relationships, how obviously bad I am at them and how previously my self-confidence has played a role in that”.

His versatility as a musician can be seen in his effortless blend of rap, singing and acoustic guitar. Such traits are apparent in the broad collection of collaborations and producers he works with, including his 2020 release with Tyron Hapi(Producer of Masked Wolf’s Top 10 Billboard single “Astronaut In The Ocean”) where Dylan featured on the major single “Leave You”, as well as allowing for Dylan to take on an impressive list of tours with the likes of Ruel, NF, Jess Glynn and Seth Sentry’s mammoth 50-date, Strange New Past tour.
