DIGI YOUTH ARTS
FIRST NATIONS MUSIC
+ TALK SERIES:
COUZIN 2 COUZIN
Digi Youth Arts, in partnership with Consulate General of Canada, has launched a new Music + Talk program “COUZIN 2 COUZIN” available exclusively on Spotify.
Curated by Alethea Beetson, “COUZIN 2 COUZIN” connects Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander musicians to Indigenous musicians from so-called-Canada.
“Connecting First Nations musicians is an important part of the nation (re)building work undertaken by so many in the international Indigenous music community. COUZIN 2 COUZIN provides a space for artists to share their influences, connection to music and envisions of the future.” – Alethea Beetson
This exciting four part series features a deadly lineup of First Nations artists carving powerful paths from across the oceans, with episodes that pair: Cody Bowles of the incredible power duo Crown Lands with breakout artist Sycco, The multi-talented and moving Jem Cassar-Daley with fearless lyricist and songwriter Nimkish, multi-instrumental rapper and composer DOBBY with folk/soul songwriter Aysanabee and Loki Liddle of Selve with R&B singer-songwriter Sebastian Gaskin.
“I think that the work that Digi Youth Arts is doing here to connect Indigenous artists from so-called-Canada and so-called-Australia is beautiful and important. By bringing us together they are allowing us to support each other’s artistry and create conversation about our relation to our music. We are creating life-long connections that not only bring us lasting relationships with one another but lay the groundwork down for future generations in this industry to build similar connections. Indigenous artists from all over the world are stronger together.” – NIMKISH
COUZIN 2 COUZIN continues the ongoing work of Digi Youth Arts to celebrate and connect First Nations artists as they follow in the footsteps of those who came before and pave the way for future generations. Amplifying the voices and perspectives of our people as they share insights and ideas with each other about important issues, creativity and music.
“COUZIN 2 COUZIN is a wonderful way for First Nations artists to connect across the seas. It is more important than ever before that we as First Nations artists are connecting, conversing and collaborating together. It’s a highly important and exciting time for our communities and I’m looking forward to seeing the result of these early conversations!” – DOBBY
The first episode of COUZIN 2 COUZIN is out now, featuring Jem Cassar-Daley x NIMKISH , with episodes being released weekly over the next month. Stream now and follow Digi Youth Arts on Spotify to keep up to date with episodes!
