“CAN’T SHAKE THE THOUGHT” IS THE RICHLY ORCHESTRATED SLOW BURNER BALLAD FROM HEAVY WAX’S DEBUT ALBUM

“CAN’T SHAKE THE THOUGHT”

IS THE RICHLY

ORCHESTRATED SLOW

BURNER BALLAD FROM

HEAVY WAX’S

SELF-TITLED DEBUT ALBUM

This well-orchestrated song is a throw back to these Gold Coast boys’ genesis in Australia’s longest running band* where the recent events gave them the chance to branch out with their originals’ project under the banner of HEAVY WAX. Something for those in search of hi-fidelity music with feeling, solid beats and that extra punch only a horn section can deliver. They have released their latest single “Can’t Shake the Thought of You” ahead of their self-titled debut album, out now.

Their big sound is underpinned by a tight rhythm section (lead by Dave Amphlett – nephew to Aussie music legend Chrissy Amphlett) along with a phat three-piece horn section that compliments Quin Samin’s tasty vocal lines. Referencing eclectic mixtape compilations this eight piece band draw inspiration from ‘pre digital-era’ genres; Soul, Reggae and Funk-Fusion.

“Can’t Shake the Thought of You” is the lead single from HEAVY WAX’s self-titled debut album. Quin says, “It’s about the rush of feeling a connection with a new person for the first time and the excitement of what’s to come. Where did it come from? Well, we’ve all felt it, so hopefully it resonates with the listener.”

Lovers of Jamiroquai, Orgone, Silk Sonic, Tower of Power or The Meters will love what the band have to offer on the album as they strive for sounds that evoke emotion, only achieved by way of authentic musicianship on acoustic instruments. They are excited about their pursuit of a new classic sound.

“The album is the culmination of experimenting with many styles that we’ve been jamming in the past 18 months on the path to developing our ‘sound.’ The lyrical content is largely about the to-and-fro conflicts of the creative process, as well as songs about our past gigs and feel good vibes. For us we hope it represents our open-minded approach to the way we create music,” say the collective of their first body of work.

The album and single were recorded at Machine Lab Studios on the Gold Coast, with recording, mixing and co-production by Jared Adlem and mastering by Paul Blakey (12th & Vine Post). The majority of the tracks were written at, “an undisclosed music dungeon (aka Casa del Reid) on the southern Gold Coast.”

In their short time as HEAVY WAX, they have played many live shows across South East Queensland and already performed on main stages at the 2021 Blues on Broadbeach and Caloundra Music Festival, with their sights set on more major festivals in the near future.

Following the recent release of the “Can’t Shake the Thought…,” they now celebrate the long anticipated release of their first full length self-titled album. HEAVY WAX should be on all music lover’s radars in 2022, if you haven’t checked out their live show yet, follow their socials and get along!
