INTOXICATING

DEBUT SINGLE

‘CHAIN OF FIRE’

OUT NOW

A mighty fusion of anthemic tunes and retro allure, soft-rock sweethearts Big Wheels have announced their debut single ‘Chain of Fire’ out now.

‘Chain of Fire’ is the first taste of what this rapidly emerging indie-rock force has to offer from their soon-to-be-released eclectic and vibrant catalogue.

Raw and vulnerable lyricism combined with undeniable vocal hooks, infectious riffs and soul driving beats are the potent brew of this dreamy 4-piece co-fronted by Cass Ford (vocals/rhythm guitar) and Lawson Doyle (vocals/lead guitar) backed by dynamic rhythm section featuring Jordan Buchan (bass) and Dale Coombes (drums). Drawing inspiration from the likes of legendary and authentic influences including Oasis, Stereophonics, Fleetwood Mac, The Doors, The Beatles and The Killers, the band’s explosive sound delivers a deliciously familiar, yet modern slice of rock music with the perfect amount of roll that instantly whets your appetite for more.

Hurled into the unknown beginnings of 2022, these four unlikely wildcards entered into each other’s lives with nothing less than perfect timing. The project’s co-frontman and driving force, Lawson Doyle, had spent the past 5 years of his career performing across festival stages and selling venues with the respective outfits Port Royal & Sunflower. Having crossed paths with effervescent songwriter Cass Ford in the midst of her previous musical ventures in 2016, the two found refuge and connection in each other’s styles and thus the fire was sparked. Together, both singer/songwriters ooze with influence of the blues, country and rock and roll, all elements of makes for an explosive sonic cocktail.

‘Chain of Fire’ began with the idea for the track title sitting on a bottle of wine in the cupboard and some old lyrics scribbled in a notebook.

“For the times we were in, with so much uncertainty and an overload of information, it felt like taking a step back from the anarchy and switching off was needed but there was no escaping it and everywhere I looked we all seemed to be drawn to the fear like a moth to a flame. For me, it was about that feeling of knowing something is bad for you but still going back to it time and time again. The track takes you on a journey of inner turmoil and feeling stuck in the same place towards finding a ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ through acceptance” – Cass Ford.

The new addition to the line up, Scottish born and raised Jordan Buchan, joined the group after a fateful encounter with Big Wheels whilst travelling the East coast. Both Buchan and Coombes, unknown to one another, held a degree of separation from Doyle & Ford and found themselves in the accompanying roles as their passion for the music and message was parallel.

Collectively, the group that today form Big Wheels have shared stages with the likes of international and national giants such as JET, Powderfinger, Dead Kennedys (US), Missy Higgins, Supersuckers (US) and The Jungle Giants to name a few. The seasoned four-piece are in no way new to the biz as the list of previous festival appearances include but are not limited to Bluesfest, Caloundra Music Fest, St Kilda Festival, Mordialloc Festival and Parramatta Festival. Their justification to pursue such a project lies in their mutual love for creative integrity, musical honesty, and lust for life.

“ ‘Chain of Fire’ excites me; not only as an artist, but as a listener. It brings a sense of nostalgia to my ears, and oozes 70’s soft-rock flair with just that hint of country twang. I feel like it’s a track the Eagles would appreciate, you know? It’s fiery (pardon the pun) nature fills you up with life whilst embracing total emotional vulnerability” – Lawson Doyle.
