BAD JUJU GET HEAVY

ON THEIR DARKEST

RELEASE TO DATE

“MISERY STICKS TO ME”

Melbourne emo rockers Bad Juju are today releasing their darkest and heaviest single to date, “Misery Sticks To Me”. The band will embark on a short tour of the East Coast starting this weekend, where they will showcase their new sound.

Having taken listeners on a road trip through sunny memories and good times on previous single “What’s Mine Is Yours”, Bad Juju offer a dark and gloomy counterpart in the form of “Misery Sticks To Me“. Once again recorded and produced with Callan Orr (Dream On, Dreamer, Young Lions), mixed and mastered by Malcolm Besley (North East Party House, Slowly Slowly), with additional drum engineering by Beau McKee (Between You & Me, Closure in Moscow).

Drenched in a wash of VHS-tinged aesthetic, wooly thick guitar tones and gritty, angst filled vocals, “Misery Sticks To Me” takes note from the industrious and grunge soaked sounds of Nine Inch Nails and ‘Neon Ballroom-era’ Silverchair.

Misery Sticks To Me” was written during the pandemic and reflects singer Russell Holland’s battle with depression during this time. “A lot of us have felt it during the last few years as our lives were turned upside down by COVID,” says vocalist Russell Holland. “Lyrically, depression speaks to the listener, guiding them to sink into the darkness, offering no escape. Putting pen to paper throughout the pandemic was cathartic, it became an outlet to talk about the low moments that I’m sure we all experienced over the last couple of years. It became an important factor in helping me get through.”

To celebrate their second release of the year, Bad Juju head out on a short run of the East Coast beginning this week, visiting Melbourne’s Inflation, Sydney’s Burdekin Hotel and Brisbane’s The Zoo, where the band will showcase their latest single alongside plenty of crowd favourites. Tickets on sale now.

Bad Juju entered into the spotlight in 2017 with all guns blazing, creating hard-hitting 90s inspired grunge rock. The band have cut their teeth on the live circuit alongside some impressive names, including Mayday Parade (US), Trophy Eyes, Dream On Dreamer, and Columbus, as well as performing at BIGSOUND 2018.

Powerhouse single, “In the Clouds” saw the band go from strength to strength, scoring additions to Spotify and Apple Music playlists and securing a highly prized slot as feature artist on ABC’s RAGE. Winding back the clock a couple of years to 2019, “Say It“, received high praise from triple j Unearthed and triple j’s Richard Kingsmill, who gave massive props with: “You fucking mean it. I can tell. All bands should.”

Working tirelessly to create music to remember, the band have more music waiting in the wings.

Until then, “Misery Sticks To Me” is available and streaming everywhere now.
