Award winning artist Sydnee Carter releases new song “Drug Was You”

Detailing the difficulties of a toxic relationship with refreshing candour, award winning Australian artist Sydnee Carter drops her infectious new single “Drug Was You” – an irresistible slice of contemporary pop.

Experimenting with smoother, downtempo rhythms, the ethereal soundscape allows Carter to showcase her astute vocal prowess – acting as the tracks’ driving force. “Drug Was You” is a reflective piece from the young artist, analysing how looking in on something from the outside does not necessarily give a true representation of someone’s life behind closed doors.

“‘Drug Was You’ was written about the woes of a young toxic relationship that ended years prior, and explores the idea that even though it may have been toxic on the outside, there were so many things about the relationship that were addictive and a constant source of adrenaline”, Sydnee explains.

“Being so infatuated with the idea of wanting that prior connection, despite the new loving and respectful relationship that has been found with someone else. That feeling of they will always be a drug to each other, is always lingering”.

“I wanted to write a song about longing for a lifetime past, after the love that is supposedly gone. Instead of drawing to a close, the hurt keeps brewing into a driving infatuation, culminating into an emotional cataclysm and realisation. My drug was always you.

With an ever growing maturity, Carter writes music with an emotional intelligence beyond her years. Completely self taught and having spent years honing her craft, there is a dedication that shines through in every artistic creation. Sydnee is now expanding her repertoire to showcase her sweet, soulful voice and fill every release with personal life experiences and intimacies. The futures looking bright for the Australian pop star!!
