The Butterfly Effect’s new single Unbroken is out now!
PERTH & ADELAIDE TOUR DATES SELLING FAST AUSTRALIAN TOUR STARTS AUGUST 23 – BRISBANE, SYDNEY, MELBOURNE SOLD OUT
The Butterfly Effect have this week made their triumphant return!
The original lineup of Clint, Kurt, Ben and Glenn have not released new music together for over 10 years – since the release of their 2008 album Final Conversation of Kings. Their new single ‘UnBroken’ is available now for purchase and streaming at http://ffm.to/unbroken.
The single premiered to an overwhelming response on Double J on Tuesday morning with Zan Rowe and promptly followed up with a spin on triple j’s The Racket with Mitch Alexander that same night – and punters and media alike have been clambering for the new track since.
The new track this week has piqued even more interest in the band, resulting in the tickets for the only two remaining shows not Sold Out on their tour jumping up, meaning that tickets are becoming a scarcity for the shows – all ticket details for the Perth and Adelaide shows at https://www.thebutterflyeffectband.com.au.
Adding to all of this excitement is the news that TBE fans will be able to grab their ‘Amplified Ale’ Collaborative Beer from the band’s favourite brewery, Green Beacon Brewing Co! The can for the ‘Amplified Ale’ is decked out in the very same shade of blue that adorns their “Begins Here” album cover. The beer will be available to order from the Green Beacon Webstore from 12 Midday AEST today, Friday August 16, at https://www.greenbeacon.com.au/beer!
Mixed and Mastered by Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Cog, Dead Letter Circus), this new track simultaneously invokes the nostalgia of the band’s “heyday”, showcasing what made them such a seminal sound in Australian music – and also what the future holds for the sound of the band.
UNVEIL “BLOOD WINE” AS THIRD OFFERING FROM ‘THE LOTUS CHAPTERS’
Sydney’s Above, Below are back with another huge single, “Blood Wine”, which premiered through Music Feeds last night and snapped up a triple j The Racket spin shortly after. “Blood Wine” comes as the third and final track to be unveiled from upcoming debut album ‘The Lotus Chapters’, out Friday September 27, with pre-orders available now at https://abvblw.bigcartel.com!
“Blood Wine” delivers a track of epic proportions, welcoming a wall of sound before the chorus cuts through the brutality with clean vocals that add a whole new element to the track and flaunts the light and the shade that resonated throughout “Labyrinth”. “Blood Wine” is an analysis of toxic relationships, both in their romantic and non romantic frames. Guitarist Zac Adamson explains that “as we mature and grow as people we begin to see others in different lights and explore the various facets of connection. Blood Wine is an exploration of one of these many connections, in particular one existing in a negative light.” The single looks at the bouncing between blaming yourself and blaming the other and the cognitive dissonance associated with that mental feud.
The music video is shot and edited by Connor Rancan and was a DIY project featuring all members of the band, Jacob Wilkes (vocals), Zac Adamson (guitar/vocals), Nicholas Bird (guitar), Dylan Mallia (bass) and Isaac Ross (drums) playing through their creation in Jacob’s basement. “We did everything DIY creating the blood wine pool ourselves in a bath tub. Connor smashed it out of the park and we couldn’t be more stoked on the final act to the trilogy of ‘The Lotus Chapter’ videos,” tells Zac.
‘The Lotus Chapters’ is a massive debut full length that has been in the works for a while. The album is a 12-track concept album that encompasses the ideas of growth, life and death, recorded, mixed and mastered by Nicholas Page at STL Studios (Tapestry, The Beautiful Monument, In Hearts Wake). A seamlessly composed concept album, the body of work weaves through the various stages of life guided by the extended metaphor of a lotus flower beginning as a seed, flourishing and eventually blooming. Throughout the 12 tracks the ideas of growth, learning, maturity, darkness, light, harmony and acceptance are navigated and contemplated to form an overarching image of what it means to be human and what it is to exist. Without constraint, the album blends ambient clean atmosphere, heavy progressive metalcore and thematic story-telling to unearth a meditation on our place and purpose in this world.
“Behind The Mosaic Garden”, the first single cut from ‘The Lotus Chapters’, premiered through triple j’s Short. Fast. Loud. late last year and built the foundation of interest for future releases with plays on RAGE and almost 40,000 listens on Spotify. “Labyrinth” premiered through triple j’s The Racket a few weeks ago and brought with it the debut album announcement, media love worldwide and has received national and international airplay since its release. Above, Below currently have three tracks respectively making the rounds in Spotify editoral playlists Got Djent, Deathcore and Homegrown + Heavy, which is home to over 300,000 followers collectively.
Above, Below’s debut album ‘The Lotus Chapters’ will be released Friday September 27 with pre-orders live now at https://abvblw.bigcartel.com. “Blood Wine” will be out Friday August 23 to stream and purchase at all good online outlets and streaming platforms!

ABOUT KILLSWITCH ENGAGE: Killswitch Engage first shook the structure of heavy music upon climbing out of snowy industrialized Western Massachusetts in 1999. A musical outlier, the band pioneered a union of thrashed-out European guitar pyrotechnics, East Coast hardcore spirit, on-stage hijinks, and enlightened lyricism that set the pace for what the turn-of-the-century deemed heavy. 2002’s Alive Or Just Breathingbecame avowed as a definitive album, being named among “The Top 100 Greatest Metal Albums of the Decade” by Decibel and celebrated by everyone from Metal Hammer to Revolver. Not only did they bust open the floodgates for dozens to follow, but they also garnered two GRAMMY®Award nominations in the category of “Best Metal Performance” in 2005 and 2014, respectively, and gold certifications for The End of Heartache and As Daylight Days . The group landed three consecutive Top 10 debuts on the Billboard Top 200 with Killswitch Engage , Disarm The Descent , and their career high best bow at #6 with Incarnate . The latter two releases would also both capture #1 on the Top Rock Albums and Top Hard Rock Albums charts. Their total streams have exceeded half-a-billion to date. Along the way, the band has shared stages with some of the biggest acts in the world and have sold out countless headline gigs in six continents across the globe.
2019 represents another turning point. The quintet—Adam Dutkiewicz [lead guitar], Joel Stroetzel [rhythm guitar], Mike D’Antonio [bass], Justin Foley [drums], and Jesse Leach [vocals]—sharpen every side of this signature sound on their eighth full-length and first for Sony Music, Atonement.
SUSPYRIA RELEASE SINGLE “LOST COLOURS” AND ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM
Melbourne rock/metal four-piece Suspyria have unleashed “Lost Colours” as the second single cut from upcoming debut album ‘Regression’, due for release Friday October 4!
The brand new single is produced, mixed and mastered by Christopher Vernon (Belle Haven, Better Half) and features elements drawn from early influences of the metal genre from the likes of A Day To Remember and Avenged Sevenfold. The track comes accompanied by a music video that follows a protagonist who becomes self-aware of the person they’ve become and what they’ve done. Front man Terence Stevens explains that, “It’s about finally battling the demons in your head and overcoming them. It’s the reflection, the struggle, and the victory.”
Suspyria released the title track “Regression” earlier in the year, which received a glowing review from Unearthed’s Dave Ruby Howe: “Seismic energy and guitars! This band ain’t messing around with this soaring x heavy prog sound.” “Regression” came as the second single from upcoming album and revealed the strained mental health experienced by those who stand by and fight for the ones they love who are struggling with addiction. The hard hitting drums, complex guitar riffs, and huge dynamic range of Stevens’ vocals sonically explore the uncertainty, anxiety and frustration held by those who care so deeply about someone on the path of self destruction.
Suspyria have been in formation for just over a year and started as a passion project between vocalist Terence Stevens (formerly of Deadfall), and guitarist Mitchell Black. The two clicked over their passion for music and began creating songs that took on a blend of rock and metal paired with elements of punk punctuating their powerful sound. Rounding out the four piece is Beau Grech(drums, formerly Furious George) and Christian Centofani (bass).
Drawing influence from acts such as Breaking Benjamin, My Chemical Romance, and A Day To Remember, the band have already started to generate themselves a loyal fan base on social media and have worked towards building a production value far beyond their years.
“Lost Colours” is out now on all digital platforms and streaming outlets. ‘Regression’ will be available on Friday October 4.

XMPLA RELEASES VIBRANT NEW SINGLE ‘BIG KIDS FEAT. CALMELL’, AHEAD OF DEBUT EP
XMPLA, the moniker of up and coming Sydney producer Aaron James, has teamed up with vocalist Calmell for the release of his most impressive single to date, ‘Big Kids’. A follow up to his electric single ‘Excited’, and another step closer to the release of his debut EP on October Records, due later this year.
The new single, sees XMPLA explore and diversify his sound once again. Previously impressing audiences with dynamic productions shaped by a huge range of vocal techniques, and refined by each subsequent release, he has gone on to collaborate with various artists around the world, and now enlisting the help of Sydney vocalist Calmell, with XMPLA gushing on their working relationship, “we were both on a similar wavelengths with how we approached the song, and we pretty much made ‘Big Kids’ within the first hour of getting in the studio.”
Further describing the meaning behind the lyrics, XMPLA shares “‘Big Kids’ plays on how we never really sleep because there is always something going through our minds. Some of us never really grow up and there is that kid inside all of us that as we get older, tend to suppress but it’s about discovering that and not just letting adult life make you feel like you can’t be yourself or have fun!”
XMPLA first burst onto the scene with extraordinary prowess in 2017, taking home first place at Studio 301’s ‘Is It A Banger’ competition. Having now released a small handful of extremely technical works, XMPLA’s ingenuity has captured the attention of the industry, quickly becoming afeature artist for triple j Unearthed, and blooming into a unique and talented trailblazer in his field. Amongst his accolades, he has also produced first class remixes for Odd Mob, Animal Feelings and most notably an official remix for Marshmello’s hit single ‘Wolves’ – the original sitting well over 1 billion streams across platforms. With various local shows to be announced in the coming weeks, make sure to keep an eye on this brilliant newcomer, who’s guaranteed to be making serious waves in the near future!
‘Big Kids feat. Calmell’ is out now on October Records.
Industrial-tinged duo SKYND is the dark creative outlet and the alter ego of its lead singer, Skynd, and producer and multi-instrumentalist Father. The pair explores the darkest and most disturbing parts of the human psyche and furthers their delightfully creepy aesthetic. They siphon inspiration from inexplicable and brutal criminal cases, and the mystery surrounding unsolved deaths, and transforms them into songs. Who needs Investigation Discovery when you have SKYND?
Jim Jones, the first song and video from Chapter II, dropped earlier this year. Watch it here. The EP also features the songs Katherine Knight and Tyler Hadley.
Watch the Tyler Hadley video here:
“On Katherine Knight, we were searching for a theme,”SKYND reveals about the song influenced by the notorious Australian woman who skinned her victim. “And I thought, ‘Why don’t we just write a fucked up love song?’ She was a psychopath and unable to feel true empathy and true love and that’s why I wanted to write a love song about her. If you have love and hate, and you put them together, they cancel each other out. Hate + Love = NOTHING, so you can’t feel anything, and that is what I am saying in the lyrics.”
She continues, “I just wanted to come up with a fucked up love story and she was in my head for a very long time. And I had her story in my diary since I was 14. I knew about her for a very long time. She was one of the reasons that I went to Australia — because I wanted to have an interview with her. But that was just impossible. She never really talked about the whole crime, she never told anyone what was her trigger, why she did what she did. Of course she didn’t want to be alone but she really never gave a reason why.”
Regarding Tyler Hadley, which follows the story of a boy who killed both of his parents because he wanted to throw a party at his house, SKYND says, “He developed the idea to kill his parents so he didn’t have to ask for permission anymore. He ended up having a party in the house that dead bodies were in, so it’s really creepy.”
Father weighs in on these new visuals, saying, “We don’t create — we document. We don’t see ourselves as artists, but as craftsmen and we are getting better and better at it. Chapter II is the current state of our abilities.”
Last year, SKYND arrived on the scene with a debut EP featuring three songs and videos that nodded to infamous serial killers. Chapter 1 included Elisa Lam,Gary Heidnik, which features a cameo from Korn frontman and true crime aesthete Jonathan Davis, and Richard Ramirez.
CHAPTER II EP TRACK LISTING:
01. Jim Jones
02. Tyler Hadley
03. Katherine Knight
We all conceal something behind the earthly façade we show to the world. Maybe, it’s an unspoken fetish. Perhaps it’s a covetous urge. Or it could just be the kind of darkness we acknowledge in passing—but don’t dare reference out loud. SKYND peel back those layers and uncover what lurks beneath in all of its painful glory. The industrialized gothic electronic duo—Skynd [lead vocals] and “Father” [producer, multi-instrumentalist]—exorcize beauty by bloodletting as they mine some of history’s most baffling, bizarre, and brutal crimes on their debut trio of interconnected independent singles.
With the release of Chapter 1 in 2018, and over 3 million hits on Youtube, SKYND are back. The duo represents the next level of aural immersion, intermingling sound, visuals, and a warning worth heeding.“All human beings are capable of cruelty,” Skynd says. “We have to keep the inner animal in check. We’re here to provide a different perspective on the psyche to maybe answer some questions.”
VERMONT RELEASE BRAND NEW SINGLE “RUIN” + ANNOUNCE DEBUT SELF-TITLED EP
Melbourne’s four-piece alternative rock/emo outfit Vermont are blasting back on the scene with their first release of the year, “Ruin”, which takes notions of expectation and self-dissatisfaction and converts these ideals into a fiery rock track. “Ruin” comes paired with a music video and the announcement of the boys self-titled debut EP, due for release Friday September 20!
This brand new single is produced, engineered, mixed & mastered by Christopher Vernon (Belle Haven, Deadlights, Better Half) and is an infectious pop rock tune that features a melodic backbone, distorted guitar tones and a catchy chorus complete with angsty vocals to boot. “Ruin” addresses self reflection and as front man Joshua Swanwick explains, “highlights an inability to be satisfied with who you are. Whether that is from the expectations of others or expectations of your own.”
The music video that accompanies sees the band play through their brand new single in a room filled with a smokey atmosphere, strobe lighting and neat camera work by Martin Wood Imagery(DREGG, The Gloom In The Corner, Weighbridge). The film features slow camera spins and glitchy film effects that give the clip an edge and uses close ups to show the weight of the emotion behind the lyrics.
Depth Magazine placed Vermont in their Saturday Spotlight late last year and commented on the way the band is able to evoke emotion and create music at a standard typically higher than most this early on in their musical career by saying: “With only three songs currently released, Vermont have the sound of a band well beyond their years … Touching on themes of relationships, heartbreak, pain, and inner demons, Vermont are able to create an overwhelming aura of emotion through their sound. Dark guitar and bass tones consistently combine with melancholy vocals in their songs to instill a constant feeling of inner aching.”
Vermont will release their debut EP September 20, which will add four brand new tracks to the bands repertoire and will build on the thoughts and themes of the previous three singles. The Vermont EP encapsulates feelings of anxiety, toxic relationships, self doubt and the environments that mold us. Joshua explains that the EP “focuses heavily on how so many different things form together to make us who we are. It’s not always pretty and at times it feels like its all too much.”
Vermont formed in late 2017 and is comprised of Joshua Swanwick (vocals), Jono Hnatejko (guitar), Nathan Borg (bass) and Curtly Lyon (drums). The quartet once made up three of five members of a pop-punk group that grew out of the music they were creating, only to come together down the track and rebrand as the band we see today. In the early stages of their musical journey, the band has only played a handful of shows around Melbourne, but have made sure to leave a mark on the stages they have graced, having played alongside Reside, Stuck Out and The Playbook most notably. Vermont strive to produce music that they love and aim to further develop and enhance their sound as they progress and explore new territories.
“Ruin” is out now and available on all digital and streaming platforms! Vermont EP will be released Friday September 20.
MELBOURNE ELECTRONIC DUO NADISKO
ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE + LYRIC VIDEO TAKE ME AWAY
Electronic masters Nadisko have today announced their iridescent new single Take Me Away, a track made to be spun in the summer (or to heat up the winter months!) out August 9. The group, consisting of Alex Hopkins and Blake Wood, have also released a stunning lyric video to accompany Take Me Away.
Nadisko formed during the Myspace glory days of mid-2008; an era when MGMT’s debut album was being blasted all over the radio and ultimate-cringe head-to-toe flouro attire was widespread. They quickly cemented themselves as premier resident DJs in Sydney, and from there they gained airplay on BBC Radio One for their debut EP, they supported Steve Aoki, Tiga, Uffie and heaps more massive names, remixed Peking Duk’s first EP, and played shows all across Australia, Europe and Mexico. It’s been a wild ride, and the guys are super excited to be back with their new single Take Me Away, as Wood enthuses,“After a four year hiatus, we have developed a more mature sound, using the knowledge that one gains after 50 releases and a love of dance music. We are super keen to release new music and share it with everyone!”
Evocative of electronic dance auteurs RÜFÜS DU SOL and Crooked Colours, Take Me Away is the much-needed antidote to a chilly Australian winter. Hypnotic percussion percolates underneath wistful, beautiful vocals, and it’s a masterclass in electronic dance production and arrangement. Offering a little insight into the inspiration behind the track, Hopkins says, “Take Me Away is an intimate, summery, poolside tune with a hypnotic guitar riff and dreamy soulful vocals. It is a new direction of what we are vibing musically, and in that, something we have only recently tapped into. It was inspired by equality and relationships. With the world being so busy and with so much division, we often struggle and forget to spend time with those closest to us. It was inspired by a very tough time for us in our lives and was used as a form of escapism. It comes back to the idea of a ‘perfect’ dream or idealism of what relationships should be like. It brought us back to the things that are important to us in life.”
Nadisko are a part of the Hot Sunday Records label family, run by Australian DJ and producer Color Castle (Christian Pilot), joining the roster alongside Sidney Charles, Miguel Campbell, Dennis Quin and more. Hand in hand with their label, Nadisko are ready to celebrate their return with Take Me Away. Wood describes how the pair’s relationship has developed over the years and how honing and interchanging their skills has resulted in Take Me Away, saying, “We both work in media and have a penchant for everything television and movies. We first met socially and uncovered a joint passion for music. Alex had been making music since he was 12, from this, I took care of the live element and Alex was mostly production, with these roles changing often over the years. Between this and music, I guess you could say we have a very proactive work ethic after years of relying on each other through various hurdles!”
